Origin: North-eastern India (Bengal, Assam) Temperament: Generally a community fish. Beware with smaller fishes. Size: Up to 14cm (5.5") Temperature: 72-77°F or 22-25°C pH Level: 6.5 to 7.0 Food: Flake food, pellets, vegetables, worms, crustaceans, insects. Tank Setup: No special requirements. Best in a tank of 24" or more, with subdued lighting. Breeding: Spawning takes amongst plants. Remove parents after spawning as they are carnivorous. Sexing: Difficult. Female is duller. Comments: Sometimes called the "tropical goldfish", this species is excellent for the beginning tropical fishkeeper. |
