After a successful building campaign to construct our first Habitat house in Florence, Colo and get the first family moved in last May 20th, we are pressing on to complete the second house for this HFH affiliate in Penrose, Colo.
Our new family to become homeowners of the house in Penrose is shown in the photo to the left- Laura Jones ( a single Mom )
and her two Sons Levi and Devon.
Ground was broken on a lot donated to us by the Kirkwood Memorial Presbyterian Church of Penrose on the 1st of October, 2001. From that time to the present, a crew of dedicated volunteers-many of whom were the key builders at the Florence site- worked nearly every week end to produce the essentially completed house shown in the photos below by the end of April, 2002.
By June 9, a Certificate of Occupancy was obtained, a public "walk through" had been conducted, and the house was ready to be occupied upon closing.
The house will be ready for closing in early June, 2002 after which a dedication will be held. Proceeds from this year's Gourmet Sampler will be used to start our third Habitat house on the property we own in Canon City at Robbie Lane.
