Dear Kuschnereit (Kushnereit) family member,

My name is Gayle Kuschnereit Crawford. I am attempting to construct a family tree and hope you may he able to furnish some information about the family. The Kuschnereit (Kushnereit) family scorns to be quite small in this country and Europe as well. I am furnishing the following information about my immediate family in the hope that some of it will sound familiar and that you will respond to this letter;

My grandfather, John Kuschnereit, arrived in this country at the Port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 7, 1907, aboard the vessel Hamburg. He was the son of Jacob Kuschnereit and Louise Looses. He came from Suwalki, Russia and sailed from Bremen, Germany. He was born on May 10th, 1882. He married my grandmother, Karolina Reinke, also from the same town in Russia, in Providence, Pennsylvania in 1908 or 1909. She came to the U.S. also. in 1907 and had a brother, John Reinke. They lived in Jersey city, New Jersey. He was employed in the beet sugar industry.

My grandparents died within hours of each other in the flu epidemic of 1918.

At the time of their deaths, they had three children:

Anna (age 7) , Adolph (or Edward) (age 5) who was my father,

and John (age 2) . The children were reared in Moscow, Pennsylvania by John Kuschnereit's sister, Minnie Kuschnereit Brodowsky and her husband, Jacob (Jake). My father did not remember much about his parents. He spoke often of an Uncle Graubel.

Research has been very difficult and there seems to be little information available about the Kuschnereit family. It would be very helpful to know the national origin of the name, if John Kuschnereit had more relatives in this country, the location of family members in Europe, history of the family, etc.

I hope you can relate to some of the information I have given.

If not, it would be good to hear from a member of the Kuschnereit family, since there are so few of us.

Thank you for reading my letter. I hope you can be of some help to me.

Sincerely,

Gayle Kuschnereit CRAWFORD
