Kuschnereit's Newsletter 2005

2005 has been a great year for us. The big news was that we sold our home in Barrie and bought a new house in Ottawa. Frank had been working in Ottawa for the last two years and commuting back to Barrie on the weekends. We had put off moving to allow Amanda the chance to finish High School in Barrie.

I am happy to report that Amanda(19) graduated from grade 12 in June and we moved into our new house on 5 Jul.

Amanda worked hard and her reward was letting her accompany Frank when he went to Los Angeles last April. Amanda’s friend Jill also went along and the three of them saw all the sights including Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Newport Beach (OC), Santa Monaco and a police car[joke]. Amanda plans to work for a while until she decides what she would like to take in College. Alisha (12) was sorry to leave her friends in Barrie but now is starting to get used to living in Ottawa, especially shopping in all the cool malls. Glenda left her job at the Barrie Tim Hortons and now is about to start work at Walmarts. She loves the new house and being closer to her family. She spent most of the summer at our trailer at Golden Lake. Her mother and sisters, June and Leane, also had an opportunity to visit Ottawa in August. June and Leeanne, with their sons, showed us how to turn our pool into a giant whirlpool.

Kristin’s big news this year was transferring from the military reserves, where she has been working in an office in CFB Borden on contract for the past two years, to the Regular Force. She transferred at the same time the family was moving to Ottawa and in fact she was on her house hunting trip in Pembroke the same week Frank and Glenda were buying their house in Ottawa. She not only has a new job at CFB Petawawa but also the proud owner of a new house in Pembroke. She is currently awaiting news to see if she will be going to Bosnia or Afghanistan in the new year.

Our other big news is that Glenda and Frank bought a 24 ft Challenger sail boat (named Bob) and joined the Rockcliff Yacht club(RYC). This has developed into more of a new lifestyle than just a hobby. We can now sail from RYC up river to Parliament Hill or down river to Montreal. Once on the seaway we could sail to the Great lakes or out to the Atlantic. No plans to sail around the world(yet) but our boat sleeps 4 and is capable so who knows what adventures lie in the future. For now it is nice to learn how to sail and take small trips up and down the river. In August Frank’s brother Larry and his family had a nice sail and Jamie and Sandy Menard celebrated their anniversary with a bottle of champagne while sailing. There is also the Weds night races at RYC, new friends and lots of social events. Glenda and the rest of the family helps crew and even Tasha and Biddy have been out.

Time sure does fly. If you like to see a collage of how we have changed over the years click here.

So that’s about it for 2005. From all of us, bests wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
