Notes for Barbara THURTELL
The 1900 U.S. Census for Jo Davies County, Illinois (Vol. 100, ED 32,
Sheet 12, Line 67) shows Barbara Thurtell as age 13, born in October 1886
in Iowa, and in school. She is living with her mother, Emma Thurtell,
and her brother and sister in Dunleith Township, Jo Davies County,
Illinois. Her mother is shown as born in Iowa and her father in
Wisconsin.
Information received from Cynthia Kerman showed dates of birth and death
for Barbara Thurtell and her husband, Edwin C. Earl, and their date of
marriage, as well as years of birth of their three children.
Social Security records for Social Security number 366-68-0277 show
Barbara Thurtell Earl was born October 18, 1886, in Dubuque, Dubuque County, Iowa, the daughter of Emma Bechtel and Walter Thurtell. She
applied for her Social Security number in Michigan on August 4, 1972.
She received Social Security wife's and then widow's benefits beginning
April 1952 on the account of her husband, Edwin C. Earl, Social Security
number 383-32-2140. Their claim in 1952 was filed at the Social Security
office in Lansing, Michigan. Her residence at the time of her death in
April 1976 was in Holt, Ingham, Michigan, ZIP code 48842. This was the
same ZIP code for her husband's mailing address at the time of his death
in August 1967.
Information received from Cynthia Kerman in 1998 shows that Barbara
Thurtell Earl died in Holt, Michigan; and both she and her husband, Edwin
Charles Magarey Earl, are buried there.
