My Black And Blue Concert Experience

Wow. That's all that needs to be said. This concert was so amazing in every way possible. I personally think it was the best experience I've had in all of my 15 years. I wrote just a simple review, mainly the highlights. [Because now -- a month later -- as I'm writing this, I don't remember every single detail.]

[You should know: I went to the show with 2 of my best friends, Katie and Kristen [Me being the biggest BSB fan of us], and their mom. Kristen is a huge rock fan. The only pop she really admits to liking is the fast BSB and NSYNC songs. She hates ballads. Katie likes pop, and some rap. Neither of them had listening to Black And Blue all the way through. Remember that. It'll come into play later on.]

Friday, February 2, 2001. 7:30 PM. MCI Center, Washington DC.

[Incase you're wondering, yes I wore black and blue. Black pants, blue shirt, blue eyeshadow, black mascara, a heart necklace - for "Shape Of My Heart," and black and blue nailpolish. What can I say, I felt like showing my pride.]

The show was amazing. Hands down. Sounds stupid, but I was proud of them. The outfits were all in all good [no puppet suits, skirts, midrifts, or the like), lots of long coats... you know, the usual. And believe it or not, the dancing was great. They have improved so much in dancing! If only they'd do more in their videos... The harmonies were perfect and they sounded so good singing all of the new stuff. Overall I loved the show. Let me get into the highlights now.

Highlights:

Nick.
WOW. This boy has aged so well and looks even better [if that's possible] in concert than on tv. I was impressed. At one point in the show, during More Than That, they all stand on their own little platform and sing. Anyway, so Nick is standing there and the bass must've gone up or something cause all of the sudden he starts shaking his ass and throwing off his coat... totally groovin' with himself. While all of this is going on, the other guys continue to sing as if nothing is happening. I was laughing so damn hard, it was hard to stay standing. I went away from the show totally thinking this thought: I WANT NICK. NICK IS HOT. I wasn't the only one. Kristen also wanted Nick. [This from a girl who once told me "Eww, how can you find him hot?" back in the Nick days. Ha!]

The Cane Dance.
I swear they give us a new dance everytime they do a tour. The Hat Dance, The Chair Dance, ect. And now we have The Cane Dance. And it's to Yes I Will, a song I never thought they could dance to. Well, I was wrong. It's pretty cheesy, but are any of their dances not cheesy? Didn't think so. I like the white suits with matching canes. It reminds me of I Want It That Way. [With the white and all.] You know, they look so serious singing it and concentrating on the dancing... if they only knew how cheesy that dance was. I enjoyed it.

The Circle Stage/Bridge.
That was such a cool effect. It was totally unexpected. I mean, they disappear, show the video of them in the dressing room, and are suddenly right infront of me. I was having a major bopper moment. :) And if that wasn't cool enough, then the bridge came down. And they walked right over the people who had floor seats. [Which was not us] Some girls were throwing stuff up and AJ being the sweetheart that he is, sat on the edge of the bridge and reached out into the audience to get the stuff from the girls. He could've been pulled down in a second but he still risked it all. That was so nice of him. I thought that idea was so original and awesome in everyway. I can't stress how amazing that was enough.

The Dancing.
Yes, you heard right. They did an amazing job dancing. I don't know if they're still working with Fatima or what, but they have improved in a major way. The best dance move [in my opinion] was during Everyone. On the line "Our heartbeats are rising..." they put their hand to their heart and did this pulse type thing. I can't explain it in words. The other move that stood out was during Get Another Boyfriend during the line "Just another playa." That whole hand wave thing... I love it. I really enjoyed all of the dancing they did, I was so impressed with how far they've come. Now if only they'd dance a little in the videos [aside from Nick's improvational. dances] I'd be happy. They need to show that they are better than NSYNC at dancing ::hides from rabid NSYNC fans:: by doing it in other places than their concerts. C'mon boys, I know you want to. And they've all become really good dancers, it's not just AJ and Howie anymore.

The Outfits.
I was happy that I overall liked what they wore. There weren't any of the puppet suits that NSYNC is so fond of [Thank the Lord] and unlike on the last tour, there weren't any pink suits. My favorite outfit were the ones they wore for the opening songs. The black and blue mix of coats, shirts, leather, ect. [See Brian's picture above] There were a lot of long coats though, you think they'd be hard to dance in. Apparently not. All in all, good stuff.

The Following Things:
*Going inside their dressing room. That was hilarious. The best part had to of been when they were "primping" infront of the mirror. It makes me wonder if they really act like that infront of it. And during that part, they're talking about hair and someone says something to Howie. He then says "Nah man, my hair looks good." This is followed by AJ saying "No it doesn't." LMAO.

*When they were going into their little "box" [and only AJ and Kevin were left] the following conversation had me cracking up:
AJ: "Well you know what they say Kevin, beauty before brains."
::Jumps in the box.::
Kevin: "Now let's take this and throw it in the Potomac River. Nah, I'm just playin'."
[FYI: Incase you couldn't figure it out, The Potomac River a big river around here.]

*Both Katie and Kristen saying that "What Makes You Diffent (Makes You Beautiful)" was a really good song. I told them it was good but they wouldn't believe me until they heard it. I showed them.

That about covers the main things. I really, really enjoyed the show and would love to go to the second leg. However, they are overcharging me. Thus, I'm not going. That sucks. So, if you have a chance, see this show. It is amazing in every way possible. You'll be more of a Backstreet fan than ever. Trust me.

Our heartbeats are rising, they're letting you in, it's time for the show to begin!!
