About LPUMC Preschool
  Who We Are
    
     Lafayette Park United Methodist Church Preschool  (LPUMC) is community outreach program of Lafayette Park United Methodist Church.  The church is located in the historic and thriving Lafayette Square neighborhood just north of historic Soulard District at Interstate Highway 44 and Jefferson Avenue.
    
     This non-denominational preschool has operated since 1978 as cooperative with parents regularly used as teacher's aides and encouraged to be active  participants in their child's preschool experience.   LPUMC Preschool provides young children from the age of 2 with a variety of play and learning experiences to develop social, cognitive and physical skills.

    
What We Do
    
     We provide  a friendly safe, relaxed and nurturing environment for children ages two to through five to grow and learn.  Our large, bright colorful classroom is laid out various     activity and play centers.   We use a wealth of curriculum materials and creative learning aides including games, puzzles, singing, dramatic play, story time, "show and tell", "talk time"a rt projects, field trips and more. Gross motor skills and cooperation is developed with daily play in well-equipped gym.  Weather permitting, children take a weekly trip to the Barr Branch Library for story time.
Experience:

       Teacher, Ms. Coleman, has 20 years experience early 
       childhood environments and Elementary Education
       certification.
    
Parent's Co-op:
     Parent volunteer are used as teachers' aides reducing
     preschool cost and assuring continuity of the
     individual parent-child learning  experience

    Parental Involvement:
     Teachers aides; field trip drivers; regularly cleaning
     and maintenance of the facility and Preschool Board.
    
    Program:
     Half day session with limited extended-day options
     offered; Small classes designed to maximize personal
     and individual attention to each child with the goal of
     reinforcing self-esteem and promoting  self    

    Age Group:
     Age two and up (okay if still in diapers) and working
     on toilet training skills-confidence.
