Disaster: The Fire of 1902
The day of May 5th, 1902 was like any other spring day, balmy and clear. That Monday evening promised to be the same as every other day, when like a lightening bolt from the sky; disaster struck at 8:30pm. Over 40 buildings, were destroyed including 33 businesses, and dozens of barns and smaller structures. The fire started in he livery stables of the New Milford House Hotel directly across from the railroad passenger station.

This picture is an "aerial view" of the affected area from c. 1874
The fire originated slightly to the left of the number 15 by the smoke stack.
