                          THE MEMORANDUM OF ASSOCIATION and BY-LAWS                                  of the FILIPINO CANADIAN HERITAGE SOCIETY OF NOVA SCOTIA

                                   MEMORANDUM OF ASSOCIATION

                                             Registered Name                                                              The name of the Society is:                                                                           The Filipino Canadian Heritage Society of Nova Scotia

The objectives of the Society are:                               1. To
  • a) promote and preserve the Filipino cultural heritage among its members as well as promote awareness of this heritage in the Canadian community;
  • b) promote social and friendly relations among its members and cultivate mutual understanding and respect among Filipinos, Filipino Canadians and people of all nations;
  • c) encourage participation by its members in multicultural activities within Nova Scotia and in other communities;
  • d) assist Filipino nationals on their arrival in Nova Scotia and help them adjust to their new environment;
  • e) encourage communication, cooperation, and coordination among the various Filipino organizations in Canada and other countries;
  • f) encourage participation by its members in community and civic related activities;
  • g) extend charitable efforts not just to Filipino nationals and Filipino Canadians in Nova Scotia but to all who are in need here and elsewhere in the world;
  • h) encourage and promote wholesome and competitive sports and other recreational activities among its members;

2. To
  • a) acquire by way of grant, gift, purchase, bequest, devise or otherwise, real and personal property and to use and apply such property to the realization of the objectives of the Society;
  • b) buy, own, hold, lease, mortgage, sell and convey such real and personal property as may be necessary or desirable in the carrying out of the objectives of the Society.

Provided that nothing herein contained shall permit the Society to carry on any trade, industry, or business and the Society shall be carried on without any purpose of gain to any of the members and that any surplus or any accretions of the Society shall be used solely for the purposes of the Society and the promotion of its objectives.

Provided, further, that if for any reason the operations of the Society are terminated or are wound up, or are dissolved and there remains, at that time, after satisfaction of all its debts and liabilities, any property whatsoever, the same shall be paid to some other charitable organization in Canada, having objectives similar to those of the Society.

The activities of the Society are to be carried on in Nova Scotia, Canada.
