$4,000 CASH
1978 FIAT SPIDER FOR SALE
This car has been my baby for seven years but it's time to move on. I am relocating to Quebec, Canada and its not feasible for me to take her with me. My asking price is well below market value and priced for quick sale. However, it is the lowest I can go. Any offer below the asking price will not make it worth it for me.  Any shipping or transportation costs are the responsiblity of the buyer.

Iam the second original owner of this car.  It was bought new in Chicago Ill by a retired couple and then purchased by me in 1994 in Port Townsend Washington.  I took it upon myself to restore the car.  I began my project by replacing specific parts with higher quality and racing quality parts.  I have been very careful not to do any non reversing changes.  In 2001 I lost my work space and have been unable to further any work.  The car currently sits in a storage unit.

Ihave over the last seven years invested a total of $11,000 in the car above the cost of what I paid to buy the car.  I have all receipts on record. My bottom line price for the car is $4,000 cash.  I originally listed the car for $6,500.   Below you will see everything I have replaced or changed on the car and the things that were and are still new.

The car has 56,000 original miles and over the last seven years has only had 3,000 miles put on her.   This is due only to my restoration project and I never took her out accept for fun driving.   Mechanically the car runs perfect.   The problem areas have been in some body rust, ( I have diligently fought this), and in 24-year-old small mechanical parts failing such as the door lock in the passenger door.

Here is the list of repairs and upgrades I have done:

EXTERIOR:

     Paint:
I began the process of repainting the car and was never able to finish.  The original color is dark flat green.  I prepped and primed the whole care and then painted the rear a British racing green (purchased off the shelf at Napa auto parts), that is a very close match to the original except that it is a metallic paint rather then a flat paint.   Over the course of living in the garage it has received a few nicks and dings, all of which can be buffed out and filled with the final overall paint job.  I did all this work myself so the cost is not related.  To have a professional body shop finish the job would depend on the quality you desire.  Costs can range from $2,000 to $200 at Maco.

     Wheels:
Boyds custom hand made polished aluminum 16x8 5"  offset rear, 16x8 4"  offset front. Lugnut pattern is 4x98mm.   No modifications were done to fender wells or suspension components These wheels ride like factory spec. cost new $3,500

     Tires:
Dunlop SP SPORT 8000. Size, 225/40/16. These tires are the exact same aspect ratio of the original tires and do not change the gearing.  Replacement cost $500.

     Top:
This top was replaced just prior to my purchase and remains in new condition.  In addition I still have the original boot cover (rare).

     Airdam:
The front lower airdam is fiberglass and bolted to the body--not bonded. Cost new $500

     Side skirts :
Lower rocker panel skirting. Purely cosmetic to bring the car into a more modern look. Cost new $200

     Mirrors
Modern molded mirrors body color keyed. Cost new $50. Not fully adjustable. :(

     Badges:
Abarth scorpian on trunk, (lost Arbath for hood) Zegoto Milano 'Z' on fenders.  Cost $250

Replaced shocks with Koni gas fully adjustable. Lifetime guarantee.  Springs are lowered 1" with spring clamps and can be reversed without replacing. Handling is excellent. Cost new $800

     Wiring
: I have reworked and replaced all the bad wiring that I came across.  Fiat has been known for their shoddy wiring work, especially in bad grounding. I have reworked much of the dash wiring so that it is grounded and insulated properly.  Some wiring looms I replaced altogether, but mostly it has been in reinforcing connections and insulation.  All wiring with the exception of added components such as the stereo and driving lights are still in original state in the wiring diagrams.
