Simon:
Sandi decided to buy Simon a friend and bought me Banjo at the same time. Simon immediately showed the newbie who was boss. Sandi had gone to the store and left her son's to mind the ferrets. The boys called in tears because Simon was dragging Taz around the house by the neck and ears and they thought that Simon would kill Taz.
Simon is an escape artist and should've been named Houdini. He managed to sneak out of Sandi's house numerous times. One time she left work to go home to look for him. That winter she had bales of straw around the north side of her house, and Simon was curled up between the bales nice and warm in spite of the cold weather. He also managed to find a hole that he could get out of, he was gone for 5 days that time. Sandi had given up on finding him, when a girl she works with asked her if she was missing a ferret. Simon had been found in a church about a block or so away from her house (how he got inside no one knows). They decided to take him to the local pet store and Sandi went to check and sure enough it was Simon, and he was very skinny. He wouldn't eat anything they tried to feed him, so they asked her what he ate.
Iams Kitten is the only ferret food he will eat, but his tastes do very quite a bit. He likes anything sweet. I have to keep after Brandon not to leave his cough drops laying around. I caught him throwing up one evening, and what he threw up was a cough drop wrapper and all. He likes suckers, bubble gum (evidence pink poop), any hard candy, and anything chocolate. He also likes pop and beer. Any cans he finds, he promptly knocks over, and tries to drink anything that comes out of the can. I try not to let it happen but one night he did get too much beer one evening and was a little tipsy for awhile, but none the worse for it.
At one time, he used to hide almost anything. That included shoes, remotes, etc. I don't notice it at all over here. I don't know if he's really slowing down, or just not as interested in doing it anymore. Maybe since he's not out of the cage all the time, he spends his free time playing and investigating everything.
He took everything in stride at Sandi's till she brought home a 12-week-old Malamute puppy. This puppy was big, and very curious about the ferrets. She had them in their cage for safety, but the puppy wanted to play with them. Since he couldn't get to them, he barked, and barked, and barked. This terrified Simon and Taz. And that's why they came to live with us.
Simon fit right in with the others. He had been over here to visit before, so it was just a lot of new and different things to check out. The other ferrets accepted him right into their family.
When he was still an only ferret, he must have caught his foot when trying to get out of his cage, or something like that. Anyway, he broke his pelvic bone. There was no way to set that bone, so it had to heal on its own. It did, but sometimes his leg goes straight on him. It's painful for me to watch, but doesn't seem to bother him at all. He hobbles a few steps and then gets it back in place.
He is one of the most loving ferrets. He's not a kisser, but if you pick him up when he's sleepy, he'll go back to sleep in your lap. And he likes to be picked up and cuddled for a few minutes everyday. He tolerates your kisses, but likes the hugs.
