*In Memory of Maryn*

Hi my name is Janie Johnson, I am a stay at home mom of 3 wonderful children. I want to Welcome everyone to Ferret Frenzy! I have fallen completely in love with the ferret, I can't help but adore these beautiful little creatures. I find alot of happiness in these wonderful furry friends. Ferrets are so very playful, and are just like children! We did have 8 ferrets at one time, but due to reasons beyond our control, we had to find good homes for all of our ferrets, except for Blaze and Taylor. Blaze had gotten adrenal cancer, but so far she is still very active and playful, even though she has lost alot of fur. Taylor has not changed much, but we kept him as a playmate for Blaze, so she would not be lonely. Our other ferrets names were Elliot, DS, Noel, Oliver, Nolan, Maryn and Baby. The site will stay here even though we no longer have all of our ferrets, all of their pictures will also stay here because they were all such a huge part of our family! Please enjoy your stay.

Here is our ferret story.

We decided in Spring of 2002 that we wanted to try out a ferret as a pet, so I began searching the internet for as much info as possible on these little fuzzballs. When I was satisfied that I knew enough to get started, I started my look for a new furry friend.

We decided that we would want to rescue a ferret, or get one from a pet store, because for one they would be neutered or spayed. Well we went to Petland in Lewisville and that was where we found Elliot. He was so sweet and cuddly when we held him, and he seemed comfortable being held. Elliot was only 6 weeks old when we bought him. He has been a breeze to train as far as nipping and litter training goes. He quickly warmed up to us and would play with us as he ran about the house! He seemed to be lacking something though, a playmate! I knew he loved to play with us, but he would love to have a playmate as well. So a few months later we started looking again. So back to Petland we went!

When we arrived, I noticed that there were alot of new ferrets there. We knew we wanted one close to Elliots age, and that was when we found DS. he was much bigger than the other baby ferrets, and was much more spunky than Elliot, and a real nipper, but I knew we could get him to the point of not wanting to nip at us. He hasn't totally stopped, but we are getting there.

We took DS home and he and Elliot played right from the beginning! Chasing each other, and then they would get rough with other and we would break it up. After a couple of days Elliot was comfortable with the idea of having DS around, but not comfortable enough to share his hammock! So off to the store we went to get a little bed for DS, so he would not have to sleep on wire. He would rarely go to the bottom to sleep, it was like he had to be near to Elliot, and if he had to sacrafice comfort for that then he would.

We found DS a cute little doggie bed that is made for ferrets, and it hooked to the side of the cage, so that way they couldn't drag it all over the place. We stuck it in the cage, and that night, DS did NOT get the bed!! Elliot quickly made himself comfortable in DS's bed! DS did not like the hammock too much so he was back on sleeping across the wire. Occassionally DS would beat Elliot to the bed, until eventually they both shared it!

Then came Noel, she was a little rescue girl, you can read her story by clicking here. She was being starved to death, and feel very fortunate to have found her. She was in a cage all by herself because her former playmate went to go live with a friend. I felt bad that she had to sleep all alone, and I knew I wanted her to have her very own roomie. She played well with Elliot and Ds, but in a cage, there is no where to run and hide, and she is so small, so I decided that until she got bigger she would have different living quarters, sooo......

Then came Blaze! I got her for a Christmas gift from my wonderful hubby, and she is just the right size for Noel. They really seem to like each other, and became great friends! Of course DS and Elliot had to check her out as well!

Well in January we found Oliver, and by this time we had gotten a new HUGE cage, and our 4 furkids(at the time) were all sharing it, so what better time to get a new baby? We of course did not let Oliver sleep with them till after about a week, just about the time the other furkids quit dragging him around and trying to stuff him in their hidey holes! And I told hubby that this would be the last one...errrr....maybe!

Ok well forget that line "this will be our last one!" We got the next 2 sweethearts at the same time. I was only planning on buying Nolan, because we wanted to add a cinnamon to our fur family. Well then Maryn smiled up at me and I picked her up, and she was just skin and bones, and so very tiny! So I ended up taking them both home with me.

Some time had passed, a couple of months, and Mother's day came, well guess what, I got Taylor for Mother's day. He is a dark sable male, and sweet as pie! When we were there at the pet store, I held him and he kissed me the whole time! He loves all of his brother's and sisters.

My ferret family was complete, and then the day came where we lost our sweet Maryn. My heart sank. In Spring of 2004 Baby came into our lives. She had been abandoned by her previous family. She was only 6 months old and needed a home to call her own. So we took her in, and she absolutely loves her new furry family. She is so much like Maryn that it is uncanny, same colors, and size, but her personality is much more mischevious than Maryn ever was. She loves to play and has so much energy!

And that is our carpet shark family! So take a look around, and be sure you go and visit their pages. We have lots of photos for you to see. Enjoy!
