Frank Hasbrouck Bevier: Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism

Born in America, my family emigrated to England in 1956, sailing from New York to Southampton on RMS Queen Mary. Lived in Hunstanton, England, from 1956 to 1958. Lived in Fontainebleau, France, and Montigny-sur-Loing, France from 1959 to 1961. Took Art History and Drawing From Life classes at Wymondham College, England, as required classes. Emigrated to Kingston, New York in January 1969.

I come from an artistic family on my Mother's side. My Grandmother, Lottie Wright, was a painter of still life, china, and pottery. Carlton Wright was my biggest influence, and was a portrait painter. Both lived and worked primarily in the United States. My nephew, Neil Stevenson, is a photographer who works and lives in London, England. My brother, James Wright, is a designer in West Sussex, England, collaborating with Richard Bayliss in the design firm BaylissWright. My nephew, Samuel Wright, is a designer in Nottingham, England, collaborating with Jamie Bowler in the design firm named &Then Design. My Niece, Catherine Stevenson, was an Art Student at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Capetown, South Africa. Catherine disappeared in South Africa in 1991, and has left us with a large collection of drawings, paintings, and batiks. The derivation of my middle name and surname is Huguenot.

Interior with Eggs

Still Life Interior with Eggs. 24" x 20". Oil on Canvas. 1985. This painting was originally conceived from my imagination, based on my experience of living at Les Boules in Montigny-sur-Loing, France, from 1958 to 1960. Originally done in graphite on paper, it was subsequently refined using colored pencil, and finally in oils.

Assassination Attempt

Ronald Reagan Assassination Attempt. 34" x 56". Diptych. Oil on canvas. 1981. The idea for this painting came from a newspaper photograph of Ronald Reagan, taken at the moment he was hit by an assassin's bullet in Washington DC. The second panel was copied by hand from the first panel, using an acetate overlay. Collection of Margaret Hogan, Albany New York.

High School Student

Suella Bevier High School Student. 24" x 20". Oil on Canvas. 1983. This is a painting of my daughter, Suella. She was a student at Sabino High School in Tucson, Arizona.
