Sila is a young Kenyan musician based in San Francisco. With his band
the Afrofunk Experience, he offers a funky fusion of African rhythms, American funk, Soukous, Afrobeat and Reggae. His
inspiration comes from his African roots, as already a child of five years old he was exposed to both traditional Kamba music and
Western music such as Prince, Otis Redding or the Beatles. In the United States since the early 1990s, he wanted to blend the various styles of African music and American funk, pop and soul into a music of his own, which he calls Afrofunk. After a solo album, more directed towards r&b, he started with a new band, the Afrofunk Experience, in 2004. Soon, he released a live album with the Afrofunk Experience, showing the energy of their live performances. Sila sings in Kiswahili and English, about the joys and struggles of life, about peace and justice. In addition, he raises funds for UNICEF and works with various organisations towards improving living conditions of children.
