I’ve enjoyed writing for a long time now. It’s amazing the buzz you can only get from creating something, then transposing it to writing, which can then be read by other people, and then they perform their own series of alchemical miracles on the text and turn it into something possibly completely different in their head which they’ll then transpose in some way. If you’re lucky and the stuff is good and it actually gets read at all. No mean feat.

Anyway, so I’ve decided to stop hiding my stuff and get people to read it. My better stuff only, mind. You may laugh. You may gesture derisively at your computer screen and wonder out loud why I ever thought anyone would ever be interested in anything I could write. If that’s so I need to know before I take the step of spending a great deal of money, effort and tears in finally sending some of it off to be rejected by a bunch of publishers. Do me a favour and be one of my free critics. Read the stories and bits-of-novels and let me know what you think: stinky or groovy?

There’s other (much more, in fact) stuff available under my pseudonym: Faith Hope

Short Stories:

The Other Story Originally started as a typing exercise on our old 186 HP PC at home (so slow and tiny it couldn’t run Windows) to try to work out how quickly I could type words just out of my head (as opposed to copy typing). For sentimental reasons I haven’t changed the deliberately (facetiously?) childish tone of the beginning paragraph – that original exercise.

Essays/Rants

This stuff does not really come under the realm of fiction. And I can’t call them anything but sometimes stylised expressions of opinion or emotion. Sometimes it’s obvious, sometimes it’s not. They’re not for publishing, just for getting it all off my chest. Aaaaaaah!

Occupational Hazards...

Self Harm (warning: extreme and violent images with potentially ‘insensitive’ response)

Novels in Progress

These are in the process of being written. I’m going to try to release sections in the order in which they will eventually be read. This means there may be delays as, while I am trying to write at least a little something regularly, inspiration doesn’t necessarily come to me in a neat order, so you’ll have to bear with me. If you want to read it out of sync, just let me know and I’ll throw bits at you. As ever, comments and criticisms are very gratefully-received, so long as they’re reasonably constructive and not along the lines of: "this was crap".

Stones

Originally conceived as a short story with a very particular twist (some say they can spot it, others can’t – probably depends how well you know me), this has already been read and criticised by various friends who’ve said, one way or another: I like it, but who are you aiming at; what’s your audience? The answer is that I don’t know. Yet. So here it is in all its un-fiddled-with glory. Enjoy. Comment.

Destiny

Again, this started life as a short story, written because I was in a bit of a dismenorrhoea-inspired bad mood and also because I wanted to see if writing fantasy/science fiction was easier because certain clichés and overblown uses of language were not only (it seemed to me) allowed but positively encouraged. It’s a working title, before you say anything! No-one has seen this before now, so please – feel free to dip in. It’s very fresh...
