FJ Alumni Dr. Fauzia Delivers Septuplets in Washington!



When Falls Church obstetrician Mutahar Fauzia stared at the ultrasound monitor in her office one day last winter, she was stunned. A patient she had treated with fertility drugs was pregnant with seven fetuses. Fauzia called a friend and mentor who teaches obstetrics.

About Dr. Fauzia:
Dr. Fauzia, 49, was raised in Pakistan. She graduated from Fatima Jinnah Medical College at the University of Punjab in 1979 and completed residencies in internal medicine and OB-GYN in New York. She was a fellow in reproductive endocrinology (infertility treatment) at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore from 1996 to 1998, then was an instructor in the program until 2000. She currently has a private practice in Falls Church, Virginia, USA.

Dr. Shameen Jafri passes away--

Beloved Associate Prof. of Surgery, Dr. Shameen Jafri passed away. (To God we belong and to Him we return). She had a brain tumor and was receiving radiotherapy for one month before the sad incident. The students and staff of FJMC truly miss her.

New Head of Department!

Dr. Jovaria Mannan, MBBS DCH FCPS, became Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore, and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore on December 6th 2000. She is interested in thalassemia and hereditary disorders. She is the President, Thalassemia Socieity of Pakistan. The thalassemia center in SGRH is currently looking after some 400 patients. Professor Jovaria is also member of the Board of Trustees of the Heal Trust (health education and adult literacy) and is in charge of preparation of all health related materials.

New Principal! 

Honorable teacher Professor Dr. Mohammad Akbar Ch. took place in the Principal's Office today (4th August, 2000).  His special interests are Cardiology and Diabetes. 
Professor Dr. Khalida Usmani retired gracefully as Principal, Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore yesterday (3rd August, 2000). We all hope that great improvements shall continue in the College and Hospital under Professor Akbar and respected Professor Humayun Maqsood (Chief Executive). 


Construction of FJMC Block:  Addition to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital
