WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?...

All of us have ran across a home remedy that actually work. Here are a few that I know...

TOOTHACHE: I personally use whiskey.. No I don't get drunk! I gargle it, and spit it out. It really works. It deadens the pain until I can get to my dentist.
One of my clients told me vanilla extract also works for toothache pain. I've not tried it though.

SUNBURN TREATMENT:: I am fair skinned and
have discovered that teabags is wonderful sunburn relief. Using dampened teabags
on the burn will ease the pain. The sunburn will still peel, but don't they always?
My cousin tells me vinegar works wonders
for sunburn treatment also. I, however, have not tried this, as I'm not fond of the odor.

HEARTBURN: My family has often used a
half teaspoon of baking soda in a juice glass of cold water. Stir and drink. It is all natural antacid. Warning: If you require this or any antacid
frequently, it could be something serious and
you should see your doctor.
Too much alkaline (antacid) can cause an imbalance in your bodies pH.

SUNTAN: I have a good recipe for suntan oil but with the lack of ozone layer, and the current solar flare activity, UV rays are higher than ever.
I recommend avoiding the sun as much as possible. If you have to be out in the sun, I recommend wearing a wide brim hat, something to cover your shoulders, and using sunscreen.
Even in the winter, you should watch sun exposure... An ounce of prevention IS worth a pound of cure.

INSECT BITES: I personally apply stick deodorant on affected areas to relieve the itch and pain of "chigger bites". My mother recommends mouthwash on affected areas.
Rubbing alcohol helps too, but can be quite drying to the skin.
Another home remedy I have used is making a paste out of powdered alum and putting it on the sting or bite. (I've actually used this on myself on a snakebite too!) It works.
Caution: If you have a sting or bite, be aware that you could have an allergic reaction or develop an infection. SEE YOUR DOCTOR

WOUND CARE: One of the best healing tools is the use of saline solution. In plain English this is salt water. It aids/speeds healing of skin wounds. Pour on affected areas. Sometimes it stings a little, but its benefits is worth a little discomfort.

SCALP TREATMENT: Listerine is a great treatment for patchy scaly scalp. It works to relieve scalp itch also. You might shampoo
after, as it has a very strong odor.

MOUTH CARE:Warm salt water is good for
mouth sores and sore throat. Gargle, swish, and spit. Avoid swallowing it. A little won't hurt you, but too much salt water intake can make you ill.

POISON IVY/OAK TREATMENT: I have used Maalox or Mylanta on affected areas. It's not the best of cures, but it provides relief until you can get to the store and get something better.

DIARRHEA TREATMENT: Old family cure is
called "burnt toast tea" Boil some water. While boiling the water, you deliberately burn a piece of bread in the toaster. Make sure its good and black. Do not butter it. Place the burned toast over a teacup and pour the hot water onto the toast, using it as a strainer/filter.
Drink the "tea" made from the water that filtered through. It doesn't taste too bad. (beats the taste of Kaopectate, and it works too)
