Tanglewood Shed from the lawn

I need directions to Tanglewood.
From Boston take the Mass Turnpike (I-90) west to Exit 2 (Lee-Lenox). From New York City and New Jersey take the Taconic State Parkway to the Berkshire Section of the New York State Thruway east to the Mass. Turnpike Exit 2 or take the Taconic State Parkway to 295 east to 41 south to Tanglewood. From Connecticut take I-91 to the Mass. Turnpike west to Exit 2. Signs mark the route from Exit 2 to Tanglewood; the main entrance is 1.4 miles west of Lenox Center on route 183 (West Street). You can also use our 'Directions Finder' located on the lodging page.

Where can I park?
The parking pass distributed to those who requested one attending the M&G is good for reserved parking in the Hickory lot which is on the map Lisa provided (or see pdf map in next question). You may enter both the Main and Hawthorne gates to access this lot. Attendants will know how to direct you by viewing your parking pass which should be displayed prominently hanging from your rearview. Those without parking passes will be settled into the general lots by the attendants. You may encounter some traffic as you arrive. As we are planning a 6:00pm start, try to be in the vicinity of the grounds by 5:30pm. Since the M&G continues after the concert, you will encounter no traffic upon leaving.

Where can I get a map of the grounds?
Click here for a downloadable map of the Tanglewood campus. Maps are also available at the Main Gate or at the Visitor's Center, located on the first floor of the Tanglewood Manor House.

Where can I stay while I am visiting Tanglewood?
The Berkshires Visitors Bureau is the best source for lodging information. They can be reached as (800) 237-5747 or www.berkshires.org/Where_to_Stay/

What time do the gates open before the concert?
For Koussevitzky Music Shed concerts, the gates open at 6 pm on Saturdays.

Can we rent lawn chairs at Tanglewood?
Lawn chairs and other equipment are not available for rent on the Tanglewood grounds. Many patrons choose to bring their own lawn chairs and tables so they can picnic on the lawn and enjoy the concert.

Is there a seating chart?
Yes! Right here:

If you bought shed tickets from Lisa, you will be in sections 12, 13 and 14. The lawn area is located right behind sections 11-20. These concerts will be projected to sections of the lawn on video screens. An additional screen will be positioned over the orchestra for those seated inside the Shed.

Can I get a refund for tickets I am unable to use?
Unfortunately, we are unable to refund tickets except in case of medical or family emergencies. To request a refund or exchange due to emergency, please call Michael Miller at 617-638-9329.

Is smoking permitted at Tanglewood?
The grounds at Tanglewood have been smoke-free since 2001. Patrons may smoke outside the gates.

What can I bring with me to the Concert?
Picnic lunches and dinners are welcome on the lawn. Many patrons also bring lawn chairs, tables, Frisbees, and other outdoor entertainment only allowed before and after the concert. Food and beverages are NOT allowed in the Shed.

Are children welcome at Tanglewood?
Complimentary lawn tickets are available to children under the age of twelve. Up to four free tickets per parent can be acquired at the Tanglewood Box Office on the day on the concert. Children must sit with a parent or guardian, and it is requested that children under five sit with their parent in the rear half of the lawn. Children under the age of five are not permitted in the Koussevitzky Music Shed.

What should I wear?
"Film Night at Tanglewood" is not generally a dressy affair as it attracts a wide audience. Those in the front of the shed may put a little extra into their wardrobes but I think you will see the rest of us looking comfortable. There will be no dress code for the M&G....Show off! Be Comfortable! Both! Whatever! It's all good!

What if it rains during my concert?
Concerts at Tanglewood are held regardless of weather. Patrons who sit on the lawn usually come well prepared if rain is forecast. Lawn tickets are non-refundable, even in cases of inclement weather.
