In Memory
of
Caleb Daniel

On January 28th our son Jesse's 1st birthday we found out we were pregnant with our second baby. We were so excited and already knew the joy a new baby would bring to our lives.  Our first  appointment we saw our baby on the ultrasound machine and saw the little flutter of its heart beat and then it was truly real we were to blest with another baby. Our new baby was going to be here September 28th! The first four months were really tough because I suffered from Hyperemises Gravaderium, sever throwing up 24 hours a day. I lost 22 pounds and was in the Hospital 3 times a week for I.V. fluids. This was hard , but did not discourage us because the same thing happened the last pregnancy. At 16 weeks I finally could take fluids and eat all the craving I had and felt the sweet kicks of my unborn child. At 18 weeks we went for our ultrasound and everything looked great we were told and found out we were having a boy! We were so happy a little playmate for Jesse only to be 20 months apart the best of friends they would be.  We would name him Caleb Daniel!
Only on April 31st  at 19 weeks I felt sever pressure  and called my husband Jesse at work screaming. On his way home he called an ambulance, but right before they arrived I had spocken to my doctor and was told there was no need to go to the Hospital I was only over doing it and to lay down for awhile. So when the ambulance came I turned them away putting all my faith in my doctor. If only I knew maybe our sweet Caleb would be here today. An hour later I could really feel the pressure and Jesse looked and could see the sac . He called and finally after fighting with the doctor he agreed to see me at his office. I was then diagnosed with an incompetant cervix  and sent to the hospital for an emergency cerclage with only a 1% sucsess rate. The surgery seemed to go well and was sent home the next day. Only to return the day after that for another emergency cerclage and put on maximum bedrest in the hospital for as long as it took. After a long week and many fears and tears I went into labor and gave birth to our beautiful son at 6:04pm on May 6th. He kicked and made many squeeky cries and held onto life till 7:43 with his mommy and daddy beside him. I was rushed for a D&C because I was bleeding so bad and almost lost my life also.
Oh what a fighter and sweet face he had.

These are Caleb's original footprints please do not copy them. We had a wonderful nurse helping us deliver Caleb that tried to give us as much to remember him by. She told my husband that she too had a baby at the same time in pregnancy and never got to see the baby herself so wanted to do all she could for us. I truly feel she was an angel  sent to help us.
Caleb's funeral was held on May 12th all arrangments made by his loving Gramin and Grampy. There was an obituary in the paper that read: Caleb Daniel  died Thursday at South Shore hospital shortly after birth. He is survived by his parents Jesse and Faith
, a brother Jesse Jr; his granparents Richard & Theresa, Rev. David Rude, Janice and Robert; his great grandparents, John & Caroline, George & Melinda, Mildred; his great- aunt Elizabeth Jane. A graveside service will be held at 1:00p.m. Wednesday at Fairveiw Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Children's Hospital, NeoNatal Unit. "CALEB, YOU ARE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER"!
The day was beautiful and many came to pay their respect. He was placed in a white casket with his hosital blanky, teddy bear and a photo of daddy, mommy and Jesse. Placed over him was a spray of white roses with a baby blue sash that said Caleb Daniel. I do not remember much except watching a bright yellow butterfly dancing around only where we all stood and over the casket and around again. Till this day my mother and I think of Caleb as a butterfly since some only live as long as he did. After the refreshments and everyone went home Jesse and I returned to the graveyard to say our goodbyes and I love yous in private. For a long time we were there everyday not willing to leave his side.
Two weeks later I went to my post partum appointment to be told three infections were found in my placenta and this was the reason I went into labor. Also was told Caleb most likely got these infections, but if you ask me he was a healthy baby and was a miriacle he lived 1 hour and 47 minutes. Which we will forever be grateful for !
