And The crowd asked me
about you my love
The Letters they wrote
were taken by the wind
How hard it is for me
to sing my love
and for the first time
we are not together
The Crowd asked me ,
they asked where you were
I told them he is
coming back , do not blame me
and I closed my eyes I
was afraid they might see you
Hidden inside my eyes
and the wind blew , it
was not the wind only
For the first time we
are not together
He came from the night
, he said shine for me
The night came and put
down my lamps
Do not ask me how I
found the way
My heart was leading me
towards you
with a fervent desire ,
burning as I miss you
For the first time we
are not together
It was a turning point in the history of Lebanese theater , the
brothers Rahbani were preparing for their play "Al Mahatta" (the train station)
that was to win the prize of Said Akl , a play that was a master piece of the
surrealist library , the audience in few days while attending the Piccadilly
sitting for the play will think that they are assisting to an Arabic musical
play of Eugene Ionesco , and it happened , Assi Rahbani was admitted to the
hospital Rizk for a cerebrovascular hemorrhage , Fairouz was already in the same
hospital for examination after an exhausting season , she did not now that in
the floor below her , was her husband admitted , but the show must Go on .
The Work is now in the hands of Mansour , a gist is to be made a
token of appreciation to the man who made the rahbani brothers , and who is now
in illness . Ziad the son of Assi and Fairouz had already prepared a song for
Marwan Mahfouz ( the one who will soon be the star of Ziad's play Sahrieeh ) ,
the song was entitled "Akhadou el helween" , the music was adopted after Mr
Mahfouz accepted to give up the song , and Mansour Al Rahbani changed the lyrics
to match the situation , and The Great Fairouz performed the song on stage in
the middle of the play "Al Mahatta" , she used to perform the song in a church
like attitude like the Late Riad Sharara would say , in one of his interviews
Sharara said , backstage when Mme Fairouz would perform the song we would be all
in tears , even Fairouz herself , who is know to be very brave and very strong
and capable of hiding her feelings on stage while performing her part , in
this song , she couldn't perform it without shedding tears when she reaches the
verse saying لأول مرة ما منكون سوا = and
for the first time we are not together .
And when Assi was able to leave the hospital , he came and
assisted to the play , the audience welcomed him with a long standing ovation
Mansour Al rahbani said in an interview on LBCI , and he continues , but after
the play , he gathered us , Fairouz , Ziad and Mansour , and he was not happy ,
he said that the work should have continued like it was prepared for the
audience , with the message it carries , without giving homage to any one , even
Assi himself .
But whatever happened that night , this song remains one of the
best works of the Rahbanis and Fairouz , this was the first song Ziad Gave to
his mother , and as a thank you for Mr Mahfouz who agreed to decline the
song , Ziad gave him 2 of the most remembered songs from the play "Sahrieh" and
the songs were "Ya sayf el 3al a3da tayer" and "Khaeif koon 3cheitik".
