Protection Against Faeries
Wary country folk grown tired of mischievous faeries, have doscovered many methods of discouraging their unwanted attentions. The following objects and devices have proven quite effective:
Daisy chains
Daisies have the strength of the sun and protect against any faerie magic. Wear a daisy chain and the faeries will have no power over you.

The Bible

Horseshoes
Moon symbol and iron combined.

Red Thread
The Scotts tie red ribbon to their front doors or to the tails of cattle, to discourage witches. Elsewhere a red cloth was sometimes tied round children's chests for faerie protection.

Silver
Faeries fear this, as they believe it to be as powerful as the moon. This is due to it's reflective colour which mimics that of the moon.

Bells
As seen on the legs of the dancing Morris Men. They are still, happily, in use today.

Iron
For example, a nail in your pocket or open scissors above a baby's cot.

An Anglo-Saxon anti-elf cocktail
Rub Myrrh into wine and an equal quantity of white incense. Shave a little off an agate stone and add to wine. Drink this after a night's fasting, or three mornings, or nine or twelve.

Turning clothes inside out
A glove turned inside out and tossed into a faerie ring will disperse the faeries.

The burning of thorns on top of a faerie hill will release captive children.

A needle stuck in the doorway to a faerie realm will stop the door from shutting and allow a human visitor to escape.
