Create  A Faerie Garden
TREES
The Whitethorn also known as the Hawthorn or May tree is
perhaps the best loved tree of the faeries, and yet the saying 'Faerie folk are in old Oaks' suggests Oak trees are also especially favoured.

As well as the important Faerie Thorn, and the magical and majestic oak, other Faerie trees and shrubs are the Rowan, Bramble, Ash, Blackthorn, Elder, Birch, Apple, Hazel, Aspen, Bay, Lilac, Willows, Alder, Holly, Broome, Pine, Beech and Scot's Pine.

Flowers
Faeries love flowers and tend them, presiding over the life-cycle of  the plants, repleninshing them with their energies.

Cowslips are loved and guarded as they have the power to allow one to find hidden gold.

Foxglove meaning 'Little Folks-glove', are sometimes worn as hats or gloves by the faeries.

Primroses have the unique power of making the invisible visible.  If you touch a faerie rock with the right number of primroses in a posy, the door to faerieland will open.

St. John's Wort will give you protection against faerie tricks, and is also a healing plant.

Did you know that the sunflower was a faerie who fell in love with the sun but died broken hearted.  Her feet became the roots, her body the stem and her face the beautiful flower that follows the sun.

WATER
Water spirits and faeries are enticed by the sound of running water, and fortunately the possibilities for water design are endless.  Water enlivens the garden whether in the form of a pond, small stream, spring stone, well or birdbath.

An easy way to make a pond is to use a child's plastic wading pool, which can be placed in the ground.  The edges can be disguised by flowers and shrubs.  You may even add a few clean rocks and or a fish!

If adding fish it is important to keep the water clean and clear.  Many plants like water crowfoot (Ranunculus aquatilis) will help.
Remember to also feed fish daily.
