EXPANSIONS UNlLIMTED PRESS  began its life in 1994 when it was set up to be a correspondence club for writers of all levels to network with one another and share work,  ideas  and friendship.

It  mutated  itself eventually into a folk club where poets and storytellers could perform in among the musicians and singers.

Following on from that,  a small festival was organised ,  bringing together various performers as well as writers,  poets and storytellers.  Poetry competitions were also held. Press releases regarding events were produced and sent to local media.

A book of the work of participating writers was produced in 1996:-  'Somewhere there's heaven.'  The publishing aspect was then born and is continuing.

A volume of poetry 'The poet bled'  by Kole Ade Odutola was published in January 1999.

A volume of poetry 'Neptune's Daughters' by Jenny Johnson was published in October 1999.

A CD audio book 'Who Made the rainbow' by Christine Michael was produced in 2001

The next venture was in
CHILDREN'S BOOKS

Currently we are non-profit making and have recently been producing approximately only  1-2 books per year. Initially,  we have had to go for minimum print runs and incoming sales have been ploughed back.
However,  the aim has always been to try and give writers and performers a forum for their work and much thought is being given now as to how to gradually fulfil this.

* We ran poetry competitions in the past and hope to do so again so that winners may have a pamphlet book of their poems published.

* We want to continue to encourage children to write poetry and we are in continuous dialogue with teachers and librarians.

* Via our links with Africa we hope to publish other African poets.

* We hope to be able to publish some of the work of people who have supported us by appearing at and helping with events that we have organised in the past .

* We hope to eventually comission talented writers in the following areas:- poetry and stories for children; poets; song-writers;  humour;  healing;  mind, body, spirit;  theology;  spirituality; women's issues;  short stories.

* We will look to pay royalties after 500 copies.

Along with the part-time team,  much of the work of Expansions is currently out-sourced and willing volunteers as well as paid people and organisations are roped in now and again for performing their work at events; reading and checking mss; proof-reading; typesetting; printint; distribution and marketing among other things. We are lucky over the years to have had good friends who have helped in so many ways.
