THE EXMOOR COAST GROUP

. .

Text Box: The Exmoor Coast Group is also known as The Exmoor Littoral Society. It has been in existence since the early 1970s. Its members share a common interest of The Exmoor Coast, birds, photography, walking, climbing or geology. There is no formal club structure or membership, just turn up and tag along, its free. You do need to be over 18 and reasonably fit. To gain access to The Exmoor Coast means descending and climbing up slopes of over a 1000ft sometimes with the aid of a rope. Once on The Exmoor shoreline people go off and become involved in their own particular interests. Its an ideal way of completing The Exmoor Coast Traverse in easy stages, eventually you will have seen and visited the entire length of one of the most remote areas in the British Isles. The Exmoor Coast has quite a bit of history attached to it involving climbing, mines, smuggling and lime burning. Exmoor has the highest sea cliffs in England and the second largest tidal range in the world, not many get the opportunity to explore between the two.
