My review of Queen of the Damned:

Everyone speaks of this movie like it is a bastard child, I find it was one of the more entertaining movies I had seen the whole year of 2002, and I am still thinking of it a whole year later.

The fascinating thing about the movie was the performances, Stuart Townsend was magnificent as Lestat, even more so than Tom Cruise. Lena Olin was wonderful as Marahet and Vincent Perez was perfect as Marius, even though none of the aforementioned actors even resembled the characters of the book.

The story in nutshell form is about The Vampire Lestat, he is a popular rock star, loved the whole world over. His music is hated by the vampire community because he exposes them for what they are. His music awakes Akasha, who has been lying dormant for over 6,000 years. She claims Lestat for her consort and then plots to destroy the world. The plot is not the same as the book, Lestat doesn't fall in love with Jesse and David Talbot was not made a vampire by Marius. But I over looked it, since I am not a nazi about it.

The highlights of the movie was the soundtrack and the settings/costumes. The Soundtrack was amazing, I bought the soundtrack after I had seen the music and I haven't stop playing it since. Johnathan Davis of KoRn along with Richard Gibb did one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard, reminscent of The Crow soundtrack, in many ways. One thing I really loved about the soundtrack was the Hindu violin solos by Shankar, it gives it an otherworldly feel. The settings and costumes were absolutely beautiful, especially Aaliyah's who played the vampire queen Akasha. I would say that it was a visual eyecandy.

The only downfalls of this movie is that, it is too short and there was hardly no interaction from the Ancients, except for Marius and Marahet. A pair of actors from the band were horrible, when they spoke, it sounded so forced.

So I loved the Queen of the Damned. I know it is not Oscarworthy nor is it the movie of our time but I do think that it is a lot of fun and a great way to spend a couple of hours.

My final score: A-
