Decipher-Con
2000 Tournament Report
2000-10-10:
This is Brad Bedlion with me take on DecipherCon2000. This weekend
was 10x better than last years DecipherCon '99. Not to say that
the first Dcon was a blast as well! Here is my overview of how
things went day by day.
DAY 1
Today was on of my work days and I had the honor of running the
first planetary subjugation tournament on my home planet of Tatooine
(that is also my region! cool huh!) Unfortunately I also only
had 4 players show up. They were all Day 2 players in the World
Championships. We had fun and the prizes were great. First place
got a enhanced Qui-Gon Jinn T-shirt and choice of a
EMoDM pack along with JC boosters. Everyone else got JC boosters
and a pack of EMoDM. Next I went over to the main hall and started
running one of the many Tribbles tables. That days daily champion
bred over 300,000! tribbles! As you can guess it got very crowded
the first day! While all of this was happening Day 1 of the World
Championships was going on and I wish I was
there! 40 players were locked in battle over the 38!!! spots for
Day 2!. My fellow council member here in Vegas, Avery Poliak,
placed 2nd on the day by a differential of ONE card! Yep, that's
right only one card! The final event of the day for me was the
"Product Champion" summit (we are no longer Volunteers, we are
Product Champions now! ask Kevin about that one!). We were informed
on the progress of Duel of the Fates and on other future product!
(what the heck, Enhanced BoN! It will be packaged like ECC &EJP
with three premium cards per tuck box.) We also saw some rough
images of Jedi Knights. Only the pics and not the card templates.
DAY 2
Today was my fun day! I ended up playing in 5 events this day.
The first thing I did was play in the SWCCG Reflections Booster
draft. I ended up drafting 3 versions of Luke Skywalker (Luke
Skywalker, Son Of Skywalker, and Luke w/ Lightsaber) as well as
Captain Han Solo and Princess Leia. This event I went 3-3. Next
was the Tatooine Planetary Subjugation Tourney. I was the
only one signed up for this event! I think It was because everyone
else was in Day 2. We found some one who had decks and player
for about 45 minutes and we each got 5 boosters of MoDM and JC.
We also drafted from a set on EMoDM. I got Qui-Gon, Mace, and
Sebulba. Next I entered in the Players Choice Sealed deck and
I went 3 and 1 in that event. Again I got a EMoDM pack and some
more JC boosters. Next was my best showing of the day!. It was
the Wild Wild Menace Sealed Deck. I drew a
enhanced Maul deck as well as choosing another enhanced Maul as
my second EMoDM card. Out of my packs I drew another Maul and
a Aurra Sing along with a total of 8 Blaster rifles and 3 transports!.
I ended up going undefeated 8(46). I got a Maul T-shirt and I
chose a Mace EMoDM (I already had 2 mauls from the SD and I didn't
need another.). Finally there was the free staff
sealed deck tournaments at midnight. Only six people showed up
and it turned into a open as many packs as possible and see who
got the best foils tournament. I was the only person who didn't
get a foil! we did play some games and I must say that I hold
the title over Kevin by differential! Kevin beat me first but
I beat him harder the next game!!! we didn't Finnish till
about 3:30 am on Saturday!. As far as Day 2 went there was allot
of thrills and disappointments. Many of the Day 1 people advanced
to day 3, including my fellow JCM Avery P. in 6th place. But there
were also may DQ's for people having incorrect deck lists. Overall
it was still a good Day 2.
DAY3
Today was the day everyone has been waiting for, DAY 3 of the
World Championships for Decipher's great games! Unfortunately
for me I was running other events so I was only able to catch
the end of the 2nd game for YJ. Ian Vincent - UK(Naboo) defeated
Phillipe Parisse - CAN (Hoth: Ice Plains) by differential. For
SW:CCG, Matt Sokol USA(Coruscant) defeated Yannick Lapointe
CAN (Hoth: Ice Plains) by 1 differential. ST:CCG had the battle
of Veridian 3. Eric Johnfauno USA (Veridian 3) defeated Brian
Sykes USA (Veridian 3).
DAY4
When you think of Sunday at DecipherCon you think of Team Championships!,
and Sunday was a great day for Team championships! For YJ Team
Pit Droids took first in the team event out of 15 teams. World
Championship 9th place
finisher Avery Poliak anchored the team with a 8 (80) undefeated
total. Myself , Brad Bedlion went 3 -1 to finish with a 6 (13).
Chris Hines finnished 2-2 to finish with a 4 (10). The fourth
team member was Patrick Hines who went 1-3. For SW:CCG Team Albany
took top honors out of the 17 teams in the team event. The team
was anchored by World Champion Matt Sokol.
His teammates were Johnathan Chu, Brian and Chris Terwilliger.
They placed 3rd, 5th, and 13th to take first in the team event.
For ST:CCG Team Britania took first place out of the 16 teams
who participated. There were only 3 members of Team Britania so
none of their scores were dropped, but they didn't need to drop
anything when you looked at their scores. Joeri Hoste
scored 8(256), Ian Vincent (the 2000 YJ world Champion) scored
7(295), and Ian Taylor scored 6(235) to lead their team to victory.
I 'd have to say that overall the entire DecipherCon2000 staff
and attendees did a great job running and participating in this
weekend of Gaming and fun.
I can't wait till next
year for DecipherCon2001!
May The Force Be With You!
