Violet

The violet has long been regarded as a humble flower for it conceals its dark beauty in the tall grass, and only flowers for a brief amount of time.  It has been celebrated in poetry and romances since ancient times, and is widely admired for its delicate powdery scent.
In ancient Greece, the violet was considered the flower of Zeus.  Zeus was in love with a  woman named Io, and in order to protect her from his jealous wife, he transformed her into a calf.  He commanded the earth to bring forh a beautiful flower that she could feed on , and named it Ion, the Greek word for Viola.
