Genocide in the World

A unit designed for Senior 4 ELA - Comprehensive Focus

This web page was created to be used by students in 40S English Comp. at Shaftesbury High School, as well as to provide links for myself, students and other educators who are studying or teaching the same material.

In creating this site I have included several links to material that is specific to the topic the students will be researching and teaching to the rest of the class.  The activity is based on the Jigsaw Group idea.  Small groups of students will spend time researching an act of genocide which has occurred in the past or which is occurring in the world today.  Using their research, the groups are to prepare a lesson that will share the information with the rest of the class.  This will allow several different examples of genocide to be highlighted in class, and will provide students the chance to become knowledgeable in one specific area and share that knowledge with fellow students.

The pages included on this site are for the students, specifically in the assignment they must complete, and an evaluation of the process of the project.  There is also a teachers' resource page that provides several links to the specific outcomes met by this assignment as well as links to supplementary materials for the unit as a whole.  Once the students have completed the assignment, their lessons will be placed up on the Student Genocide Lessons page.

All graphics one this site, other than the one above, were obtained from Microsoft Design Gallery Live.
