erik wohlgemuth - singer/songwriter

bio

A Rhode Island native, Erik Wohlgemuth has been playing and composing music since the early nineties. His main instrument is the guitar where he has explored such styles as psychedelic rock, "folk-baroque"--a term coined by British fingerstyle guitarist John Renbourn--and the country blues and primitive guitar sounds of John Fahey. Banjo and mandolin lead his exploration into the bluegrass realm with songs reminiscent of early Doc Watson and Clarence Ashley. On rainy days he transposes tunes by Erik Satie to guitar and watches raindrops gather on window glass.

Erik has performed as a supporting musician for the Willard Grant Conspiracy fronted by Robert Fisher on numerous occasions. He was also a member and co-founder of the Providence-based roots-rock band Barn Burning providing guitar, mandolin and banjo melodies. During his time with Barn Burning, Erik frequented Providence and Boston venues and also traveled from Montreal down the east coast to North Carolina, from Chicago to Nashville and New York City. He has had the opportunity to share the stage with Jed Parish, Pinetop Seven, Will Johnson, Slobberbone, Richard Buckner, Caitlin Cary, Clem Snide, Milkweed, Gloria Deluxe, String Builder, and a host of others.
