"When you must dream, dream the impossible, call it improbable, then strive to make that dream a reality"

It Was Me

Met a woman in Birmingham
Things went faster than I planned
But I still invited her to my cabin on the lake
I told her a man had leased it for two years
After a breakup, he was left in tears
He tore the place up worse than an earthquake

But I didn’t tell her
It was me, it was my wife
Who took the kids, and took my life
She took my last ounce of hope
I broke the TV, broke the shower
Sat in our bedroom, cried for hours
Trying to let go
It was me, she was my love
The only one I dreamed of
Left for some lawyer in Tenessee
I told her about the divorce
And those nasty days in court
But I didn’t tell her it was me

I took her out on the dock
We found some pieces of a clock
My daddy gave us our wedding day
I tried to laugh as we picked it up
Threw it over in the muck
Told her some more about that man as we watched it fade

But I never told her
It was me, it was my wife
Who took the kids, and took my life
She took my last ounce of hope
I broke the TV, broke the shower
Sat in our bedroom, cried for hours
Trying to let go
It was me, she was my love
The only one I dreamed of
Left for some lawyer in Tenessee
I told her about the divorce
And those nasty days in court
But I didn’t tell her it was me

I didn’t tell her I was the one
Who didn’t care all he’d done
Who just wanted to get rid of the pain
Who stopped talkin’ to his friends
Lived there every weekend
And wondered if he’d gone insane
It was me, it was my wife
Who took the kids, and took my life
She took my last ounce of hope
I broke the TV, broke the shower
Sat in our bedroom, cried for hours
Trying to let go
It was me, she was my love
The only one I dreamed of
Left for some lawyer in Tenessee
I told her about the divorce
And those nasty days in court
But I didn’t tell her it was me

It was me, she was my love
The only one I dreamed of
Left for some lawyer in Tenessee
I told her about the divorce
And those nasty days in court
But I didn’t tell her it was me
