What's New?

Wow! I can't believe it's been so long since I've updated this page! Anyway, according to the official site, it looks like evan and jaron are going to cross over to country. They need a new name though. Any thoughts?

evan and jaron - "Hellooooo Atlanta!"
So began the journey of then 19-year-old musicians Evan and Jaron Lowenstein, whose widely naïve statement kicked off their first-ever show in a local Atlanta club in 1993.

"Our innocence is what propelled us," says Jaron, now 26. "We thought that was it. From here on out everyone would know who evan and jaron was."

While things weren't quite as easy as the duo had planned, it is apparent in even their earliest works that evan and jaron had a comfort with music that was well beyond their years of experience.

"If you were to go back and listen to our first songs, you could identify that we didn't suck," explains Jaron. "there was a lot of work needed but we had our shining moments."

evan and jaron, the duo's debut record for Columbia, is the culmination of seven years of those shining moments, showcasing their mature songwriting, catchy melodies, and pop hooks. Produced by evan and jaron and John Fields with T Bone Burnett (Elvis Costello, Wallflowers, Counting Crows) as the executive producer, evan and jaron features a slew of musicians that span several generations. By a "twist of fruit" so to speak, legendary drummer Mick Fleetwood, would hook up with the duo at Music Bridges, (a cultural music exchange to which evan and jaron were invited to attend alongside Fleetwood, Bonnie Raitt, The Indigo Girls, Burt Bacharach, and others in Havana, Cuba in April '99), and would later play drums on the introspective "You Don't Know Me," and percussion on the groovin' "Ready or Not."

"Having never been to Cuba, we were unsure of the food situation," recalls Evan, "so we took a case of fruit roll-ups with us and as fate would have it, Mick loves them. He would sneak into our hotel room late at night and we would share bonding moments over fruit roll-ups the way sailors do with beer."

In addition to Fleetwood, John Medeski of Medeski Martin & Wood lends his keyboard talents to six tracks. Semisonic frontman Dan Wilson co-wrote "Ready or Not" with Evan through the wonder of modern technology-they exchanged tracks on a disc via snail mail using a Roland vs-1680 digital workstation (a 16- track portable studio) while Wilson traveled the country in his tour bus and Evan wrote from his home studio in LA. They didn't even meet face to face until the song was finished. Producer Glen Ballard was also a part of the record, co-writing the soul searching "Pick up the Phone." Not bad for a couple of musicians that almost weren't.

Born and raised in Atlanta, both brothers were too busy traveling the country as semi-pro baseball players than thinking about any kind of music career. It wasn't until Evan discovered Elvis Costello's "Allison," that his path in life was forever altered.

"I didn't necessarily want to be him, I just wanted to be the guy who wrote that song and sang it with so much emotion," recalls Evan.

As fate would have it, Evan would eventually stumble upon his talent for songwriting. "Truth be told, I was just trying to play other people's songs and only through my frustration of not being able to, did I put my own chords here and there and alter the melody accordingly; thus creating what would become my first couple of songs", says Evan.

In 1994 evan and jaron released Live at KaLo's Coffeehouse on their own A Major Label Records (radio stations said that they wouldn't play anything that wasn't on "a major label"). The album began flying out of their hands after shows and quickly created a solid buzz throughout the southeast.

Shortly after the 1996 release of Not From Concentrate, evan and jaron were signed to Island Records and released We've Never Heard of You Either in 1998.

As songwriters, evan and jaron incorporate everything from real life experiences to fabricated fantasies into their songs. The album's sweeping opener, "Outerspace," is as Jaron says "Our LA Song"; the city the duo relocated to in 1999.

"It ('Outerspace') features an idea I've always wanted to put into a song - 'To all the girls who wish to be/ immortalized in fantasy/ I wrote this song for you/ and not for me'.' There seems to be this deep desire for every girl to be immortalized in a song. Every girl wants to be Peggy Sue, and I don't blame 'em."

From the explosive first single, "Crazy for This Girl," to the haunting "I Could Fall" ("It's an extremely personal song to me. I tried to convey that plateau of trust one reaches when they could close their eyes, fall back, and be 99.9% sure that the one they love will catch them. It's both the scariest and most beautiful thing in the world", recalls Evan). From the hippie-folk anthem "On the Bus" to the retrospective storytelling of "Wouldn't it Be Nice to Be Proud", Evan and Jaron take nods from such renowned songwriters as Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, and Lennon and McCartney, all while updating their influences with a signature of their own.

New CD will be released on September 5, 2000. It's going to be self titled - "Evan and Jaron." First single to be released will be "Crazy For Girl". Keep checking back here for upcoming show dates. Evan wanted me to be sure and tell everyone that he misses them and he hopes to see all their fans and friends soon.

Dan Wilson, Mick Fleetwood, John Medeski Contribute To Evan And Jaron Record

Dec 6, 1999, 2:00 pm PT
Columbia Recording artists Evan and Jaron have teamed up with Semisonic singer Dan Wilson on a track, "Ready Or Not," tentatively slated for the duo's Columbia debut, as well as garnered Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood, who contributes skins on the album.

"Ready or Not" was written together before the duo had even met Wilson.

"I had this unbelievably cool guitar riff, a melody line idea, and a percussive melody that was very hip-hop," says Evan Lowenstein. "I sent it to Dan and when he heard the song, it inspired him to finish the whole thing. That was it, there was nothing left for me to do. He's that talented."

While Lowenstein may look up to Wilson, the Semisonic singer is just as much in awe of the duo, which also includes brother Jaron Lowenstein. "I think it turned out really well," says Wilson. "They are both super together and they are so musical. The first time I heard them sing harmony in the room with me I got chills down my neck. I thought, 'Oh, this is what real talent is. This is what that God-given gift thing is.' It was like being a room with a classical trained quartet."

Evan and Jaron's as-yet-untitled follow-up to their 1998 Island Records debut, We've Never Heard Of You Either, is currently being mixed in Los Angeles. In addition to Wilson and Fleetwood, John Medeski of Medeski, Martin, and Wood played keyboards on the record, among others. Evan also wrote a song with Burt Bacharach, although it likely won't be used for the record. Producers T-Bone Burnett (Elvis Costello, Los Lobos) and John Fields (Dovetail Joint) are behind the consoles.

(this came straight from the Dawson's Creek website, where our boys are among the featured arists for the week.)
EVAN AND JARON Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, twin brothers, Evan and Jaron Lowenstein showcase their talent on Dawson's Creek with the song "From My Head To My Heart". Featured in the episode "None Of The Above" (#303), this song currently can only be found on the very successful soundtrack to the movie "Runaway Bride". With two previously released independent records under their belt, they released their "debut" album We've Never Heard of You Either under the Island Records label in February 1998. Featured in a past issue of Vanity Fair, their debut album has garnered rave reviews and started them on the road to superstardom. Their single "And Then She Says" off their debut album hit bigtime in Atlanta and eventually received airplay across various radio stations in the eastern half of the US. They began to draw crowds from cities all over the East, eventually leading to their immense popularity. "We really enjoy what we do," said now 25-year-old Jaron in a recent Vanity Fair article, five minutes younger than brother Evan. "While it may not be 'money for nothing, chicks for free,' it's still better than life in a three-piece suit." Back in March 1999, they signed with Columbia Records and are expected to release an album under their new label sometime in 2000. It is not known at this time whether or not "From My Head To My Heart" will be included on it. Their songs tell stories from a twentysomething perspective, embracing universal themes that everyone who has ever loved, lost and dreamed can relate to. Something "Dawson's Creek" music fans have grown accustomed to hearing.

...a message from evan...
"A Kate Exclusive"
well it's official....as of march 19, 1999 we are now on columbia records (home to such legends as bob dylan, bruce springsteen, billy joel, etc.). we are very excited to be going into the studio in the coming months to make a completely new record which will hopefully be out as early as late summer. the new songs are so great....i do believe that you will all agree. jaron and i just got back this past week from cuba. we were part of a wonderful experience called "music bridges" in which 40 or so american and british artists were selected to go to cuba and write songs with cuban musicians. if i told you the other musicians who went you probably wouldn't believe me....well for starters, the cuban musicians were amongst the best in the world...no joke, i mean incredible. form our group we had: mick fleetwood, bonnie raitt, burt bachrach (who was literally across the hall), gladys knight, peter frampton, andy summers and stewart copeland from the police, peter buck (REM), indigo girls, lisa loeb, joan osbourne, duncan sheik, and many others...oh, how could we forget....jimmy buffett made an appearance towards the end of the trip as well. as i was saying, it was quite an amazing group that jaron and i were extremely flattered to be a part of. they put all of our names in one hat and all the cubans in another hat. they then picked 2 names from each hat, and that became a songwriting team. jaron and emily sailers (indigo girls) worked on a song together (they were picked together in the second lottery). i worked with duncan sheik, a girl named ruth merry (she won a major songwriting contest to get there) and woody harrelson (oops, did i forget to mention that woody was there). woody was an absolute blast. we had such a great time with him....he was so woody. he was not a let down at all. one night while we were down there "the people vs larry flint" came on with spanish overdubbed and we were teasing woody about how well he spoke spanish in the movie and how poorly he spoke in real life. well anyway, the song that we ended up writing is pretty darn good. it won't be on our record, due to complications with the US embargo (the US gov't has a problem with us recoding any songs in the US that were written in cuba as part of this trip) but i guarantee you'll hear us play it live. well, i hope everyone is doing well and i look forward to seeing you all out on the road. be well, ...evan

congratulations guys!!! we all wish you the nothing but much happiness with the new label and we are VERY anxious to get the new record........ peace, love and happiness :) Lori
