Hi! I'm Emily La Fave. I am a teacher, wife, mother, and occasionally just myself. I am a perfectionist and an overachiever. I always have too many projects going on at once, and for whatever reason, I am unfailingly surprised when real life interrupts them. Thus, my house and my classroom are in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and I'm pretty scattered. I have my moments of self-doubt, but basically, I think I'm pretty cool.
I am embarking on two new adventures. When the school year ends, I will be a stay-at-home mom. I am so excited about this opportunity to be with my children, and I don't mind setting classroom teaching aside for awhile. Meanwhile, I will still be involved in molding young minds, not only those of my children, as I have become a consultant for Usborne books. I teach 9th grade French and Spanish. French is my forte. I have taught both languages at many levels in 4 different school districts. Research on how the brain acquires languages motivates me in my teaching, and my students have experienced much success with the TPR Storytelling approach to building fluency.
My husband, Joel, is a social studies teacher (and a darn good one). Our son, Cal, is 4 years old and speaks French pretty well in addition to English (and between Dora the Explorer and me we've been adding some Spanish to the mix). He is imaginative and has a great sense of fun, but is moody too. Our daughter, Sophie, is an infant, and she is very strong and willful and smiles very easily.
I hope to put together something moderately interesting or useful but that won't take too much time away from the things I really should be doing right now!
