His mother being an electone teacher and his grandmother a piano teacher, KAMIJO was born in the ideal environment to do music. However, he showed absolutely no interest in music until he entered highschool and was absorbed with tennis from elementary school until the spring of his first year of highschool. Since the time of his childhood, Paul Mauriat records were often played at his home. He received a great deal of influence from this, but didn't realize it until after he had reached his 20s.
When KAMIJO entered highschool, of course he entered the tennis club. However, through a series of events including: an argument with an upperclassman on the tennis team, holding his tennis racket like a guitar one day, and that a music store happened to be selling a guitar for 10,000 yen (because of a defect in it), he ended up starting guitar. After that, he converted to vocal after being invited to be a vocalist in a friend's band. Before graduating from highschool, he began working on what eventually became the song "LILLIE CHARLOTTE" in the band LAREINE that he later formed. After he left highschool, he first entered a music school, but left of his own will in order to become a roadie. And then, in November 1994, he formed the band "LAREINE" together with MAYU. On March 26, 1999 they had their last indies live at the Shibuya Public Hall and made their major debut with SME records on May 26 of the same year. They released one album, several singles, had a nationwide tour, the Nakano Sunplaza 2 days event, and a fanclub limited tour which included a performance at Akasaka Blitz. At the end of the Akasaka Blitz performance, all the band members except for Kamijo left. At this point, KAMIJO and MAYU parted ways for a little while. The fall of the same year, KAMIJO, who was continuing LAREINE alone, released the single "GRAND PAIN" and the album "SCREAM." These works describe his deep feelings toward LAREINE. The theme of this work is extremely (feeling blue/sadness/misery). On January 5, 2001 KAMIJO did his first solo LAREINE live at the Shinjuku Liquid Room. At this live, he felt that he wanted to return to the form of a formal band (rather than being solo). And so, KAMIJO began making songs with YOU, who invited him into his band, and MAYU. During that time, he met AYA and the present band members were then gathered. KAMIJO, who enjoyed the fun of making music with the other three as well as the inspiration he got from that, decided that he would like to continue band activity as a "new band" rather than as LAREINE. In March of 2001, they decided to make the band name "NEW SODMY." |
