*January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977*

32 YEARS IS FOREVER!!!

On January 8, 1935, Vernon and Gladys Presley of Tupelo, Mississippi, have twin boys in a two-room shack built by Vernon on Old Saltillo Road. The first child, Jesse Garon Presley, is stillborn. Elvis Aaron Presley arrives 30 minutes later. In 1954 Elvis Presley hits the music scene and the rest is HISTORY!

On August 16, 1977, Elvis returns from a trip from his dentist where he was getting a tooth filled. Around 4:30 am. Elvis and Billy Smith, a friend, begin to play a game of racquetball and play until 6:30 am that morning. Unable to sleep Elvis tries to read. Ginger Alden, his fiancee, stays up with him until around 9:00 am. As she's dozing off, Elvis takes a copy of "The Face Of Jesus", by Frank Adams and goes into his bathroom, saying goodnight to Ginger. She tells him not to fall asleep and Elvis sais "Ok, I wont", and shuts the door.

Shortly after 2:00 pm, Ginger awakes and when she sees that Elvis isn't in bed, goes to the bathroom and knocks on the door. He doesn't answer, so she looks in and sees him curled up in a fetal position on the floor by the toilet. Ginger calls downstairs and Al Strada and Joe Esposito rush upstairs to find Elvis, without color and no apparent signs of breathing. The fire department is called and ambulances rush to the scene. Vernon enters, followed by David Stanley (Elvis' step brother). Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie, runs in and see's her daddy and is screaming "Daddy, daddy, what's wrong with daddy" but is quickly taken out of the room! Elvis is given rudimentary first aid and rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessse, where he pronounced dead at 3:30 pm. The initial cause of death is listed as a heart attack.

It does not seem like it has been 30 years since Elvis passed away! Listening to his music was an escape for me. I became an Elvis fan when I was 8 years old in 1973, when my family and I visited the amusement park Kings Island in Cincinnati, Ohio. There was an Elvis impersonator there and I loved the style, the songs. When I got home after the visit at the park and seeing the show, I mocked the moves, his curled lip, and his "Thank you, thank you very much"! After talking so much about Elvis Presley to the point that it drove my parents crazy, my mother bought me my first Elvis album which was "Aloha from Hawaii, Via Satellite", the double live album, and the single "It's Midnight"! I loved his music but did not realize the TRUE affect that his music and his life would have on me until my parents separated in November of 1977! His songs of separation and hurt helped me cope with what I was going through. I would lay in my room for hours and listen to his music. That day in 1977, On August 16, I was at my grandparents farm in Johnstown, Ohio, (My fathers parents), and the television was on when a SPECIAL NEWS BULLETINflashed on the screen. Elvis Presley, the king of rock and roll, had just been pronounced dead!!! I was in shock! From that moment on, Elvis and his music were all I had to escape what was going on around me, with my parents being separated, and going through watching my parents divorcing! I would lock myself in my room and play Elvis' music. I shut out what was going on around me by playing his music because I could relate to his songs such as "Separate Ways", "Always on my mind", "Don't cry daddy", "My boy", "Never again", "Love coming down", "I miss you", "It's easy for you", "Hurt", "For ole' times sake", "Sound of your cry", and so many others! Listening to his music helped me cope with the things in my life at the time that were going on around me. Even though I never met him in person he was a friend and someone I could relate to! Elvis, you are missed! You were in my life at the time I needed you the most. Your music and your caring and giving ways to those who experienced you and came in contact with you will live with us forever! You are still in my heart and you gave this little boy somewhere to go when he was in need of someplace to hide! The times seem like yesterday but that yesterday was a lifetime ago. I wish that I could bring back those times...because I would change some things, but that is not possible. Thank you Elvis Aaron Presley for the memories and the music you sang that will remain forever in my heart!
