Dress Code

Why we shouldn’t have it, or do we already?

May 12, 2000

In public schools, almost every single student can agree that wearing school uniforms is a bad idea. Especially in Fairfax County, one of the riches counties in the United States, enforcing dress codes of this nature is a bad idea. Almost everybody has a dress style all their own, whether it is sports jerseys, blue jeans and t-shirts, skirts that stop at the butt, sweater vests or anything all in one color. To take away our individual style would be inhuman, and most likely ruin the rest of our lives that are so strongly based on having a kick-ass young adulthood.

Now, I am here to tell you that this dreadful fate may be closer to a reality than one may think. If you do not believe me, let me inform you of the plan that the schooling systems have for getting us to conform to what they want us to do. The code name is Abercrombie.

Abercrombie is actually a acronym for:
Active
Betterment
Engaging
Reasonable
Control
Regarding
Open
Minded
Brats
Irritating
Everybody

Although I have no statistical proof, I believe that 95% or more have at least one article of clothing bought from the Abercrombie & Fitch store. Also, roughly 50% own a shirt, pants, shorts and either socks or underwear. Finally, there are at least 18.2% who wear one different article of Abercrombie everyday. Oh, yeah. There is also 9.8% who wear complete Abercrombie outfits, also known as uniforms.

If you want to avoid conforming, why the hell are you all wearing the exact same thing? I bought one thing from American Eagle, and after two weeks, I saw three different people wearing the very same sweater. So, I have not worn the sweater since. That would be the individualistic thing to do.

The only way for us to avoid wearing the same thing and dressing in a uniform fashion, we must all find our own style. I mean, every single person be different from the other. That might mean that everything you wear might be bland or similar, but at least you would be different from the rest of the crowd. If anyone has seen my wardrobe, you will know what I’m talking about. This is the only way that I see that we as a teenage community can screw the older powers-that-be.
In summary: Buy Target.
