Our
Ancestors and the
United States of America
|
|
Most of our ancestors gave up nearly
everything and left the people they were closest to back in their
homeland. Their intent was to find a better life and hoped that this
great country of ours would provide it. I am a firm believer that we
should learn from history so that we do not repeat past mistakes.
Genealogical research is a way to learn of our heritage. Furthermore,
we should remember where we came from so that our ancestors’ sacrifices
will not be forgotten. Let us not forget the words of our founding
fathers:

My Irish Line

My earliest immigrant
ancestors came from the Emerald Isles. They are my most elusive &
hardest to trace ancestors. I have marriage & naturalization
records for some along with birth, baptism, marriage, & death records
for their first-borns...All stating they were from Ireland, but no counties or parishes are listed.

My Polish Line
|
|
With the
help of my local FHC, I have been able to trace one of my Polish lines back
to the mid-1700s, in other words my GGGGG(yes 5th G)grandparents who were
living in the town of Sompolno. We found a cousin in California who is also
doing research and will be adding more information on the LISZEWSKI, later
LASS line as it is verified. I am also researching a connected family
from Tarnowiec for another cousin.

My Heritage
|
|
The U.S.A. has been known as a melting pot of nations. Today’s citizens can trace their
ancestry to any of the four corners of the planet. My ancestors come from Ireland, Hungary, Portugal, the Azores, Poland, & depending on the times also Russia. We have since then settled in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, later California & this generation has further diversified
to South Carolina & Florida.

My Hungarian Line
|
|
My Hungarian side came over
at the beginning of this century. As a result, my dad grew up in the
Hungarian section of the city, though the language is no longer spoken in
my family, this is one of our strongest connections. To this day, two
of the few ethnic foods I eat comes from this line, a type of soup noodle
that I make my mom buy & mail to me from CT (my mom was once shown how
to make it, but it is too time consuming) and a type of stuffing that even
I will make for holidays. My mom will also make the same Hungarian
pastry for most get-togethers

My Portuguese also stepped
on these shores less than 100 years ago. They originally settled in New Bedford , MA and later spread to Connecticut. The Pinheiro’s anglicized their
name to Pinero, while the Pereira’s changed to Perry.
