Adoption Policies

ALL of our ratties are adopted out on a pet contract.

A small fee is charged to ensure that these little guys don't end up as snake food. We ask $8 each or $10 for the pair.

We do not adopt out single rats unless you show that you have a same sex or altered opposite sex rat at home.

Rats do not do well alone. They are highly social creatures and need friends to bond to and interact with.

Despite all the time we plan on spending with our pets, there are times when we can't.  For more information on "Why Rats Need Company," click here.

For more information on any rat pictured on this page, click on the image. They all would really love to have a forever home with a person all their own to love.  They have been saved from death and are ready for you to love.  if you are interested in adopting any of these babies or would like to reserve strawberry or peaches for the future please contact me with the names or numbers by the pics. If you would like to adopt one of the ratties on this page please contact me at wiskersntails@yahoo.com and put the rat's name or number in the Subject box.  Or if you are looking for a specific type (i.e. color, coat, markings, gender) you may contact me with the information and leave me your email. I will contact you if/whenI recieve a rescue that fits your description.

Strawberry

Strawberry is a female hairless around 6? months old. She was brought to me because she was a "biter". The previous owner thought that "flicking her in the head" was the right way to teach her not to bite when he reached into her nest full of pinkies.  She is much better now and has gotten more accustomed to the partial loss of sight in her left eye. This was caused by a piece of bedding that became imbedded in the eyeball. I am still working to teach her not to fear humans. She will be available for adoption in a few months if all goes as planned. She will probably be a female-only rat. She has a fear of men still and I don't know if she will ever overcome that.  She will be adopted to an experienced owner only with the stipulation that should the new owner ever decide to give her up she will be returned to Aamanda's Misfits.

Peaches

Peaches is a cream female. I don't have a lot of background on her but she came to me a biter. She would bite for no apparent reason.  She has started coming up to me on her own and wanting to be on my shoulder, but she is still a bit nippy, so is not yet available for adoption. She will be another "experienced owner only" if/when she gets to a point of trusting better. Both of these girls are lovers at heart. They only need a chance to learn to trust.

6 weeks - agoutis
5 weeks - black-hooded, black-capped and charcoal-capped
4 weeks - creams and agoutis

At the moment I have available for immediate adoption several baby rats aged from about 4 weeks to 6 weeks. They were "leftovers" from a local snake owner that bred his own "food".  He sold his snakes and was going to dump the ratlets.  The older ones are a bit jumpy, but do not bite. This is to be expected as he did not handle them. I have been playing with them and they are doing great. The younger ones are full of energy and love to try and pull me into their cages. They are great at giving manicures and checking ears for "treats".
