Ismaili playing AS Port Louis 2000 |
Ismaili have been focused on doing well in this competition since they have lost two successive finals in a row - the Egyptian Cup and Egypt-Saudi Cup. They have so far seen through Zanaco of Tanzania (agg 1- 0) and AS Port Louis of Mauritius (agg 7 -0). They are mow in training for their next match. |
win at the national stadium in Cairo. This meant it was 1 - 1 on aggregate. But when both teams failed to score in extra time, it came down to penalties which saw dreadful penalties from Basheer el Tabeai, Wael - El Quabanni and Mahmoud abdel Rakeb failing to go past a weak Tanzanian keeper. But Zamalek have protested to FIFA about the referee who they claim was "biased" and made "awful" decission.during the match. FIFA have watch the video footage and replied to Zamalek saying they will give the referee a 3 month ban. |
Zamalek have only themselves to blame as they come crahing out of the Champions League. The team have lost out on the title which they are current holders of. Their fans have shown their anger at Zamalek's coach who has now left. Zamalek lost 1 - 0 to Simba of Tanzania away and returned the favour with a 1-0 |

There wasn't very much action in the original 90 minutes of play, hence two halves of extra time in which both teams scored. In the 112th minute Mohammed Faadl skipped past a defender in the Ismaili area, played the ball back to Khaled Bibo who buried it past Sobhy. Only minutes later did the ball go in for the exhausted Ismaili players. Saaed Moawad crossed a hanging ball into the area, which saw El Hadary fumble the ball only for Mohammed Mohsen Abu Gresha to put it into the net. Extra time was over and penalties were palyed. Emad el Nahas and Amr Fahim missed their crucial penalties and only one missed penalty from Gilberto for the Ahly crowned the Red Devils EFA champions 2002 - 2003. |

CONGRATULATIONS !!! Zamalek are champions of Egypt. Also voted African team of the Century !!! |
The battle of the titans meant it was a tight finish for both Egyptian football superpowers Ahly and |
Zamalek. Both teams lost a match in the thrilling derby matches between each other. But just when everone thought Ahly had won the League, they suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of Enppi, their last opponents, on 30th May 2003. At the same time Zamalek was playing Baladeya at Egypt's national stadium - Cairo stadium. They defeated underdogs Beladeya 3 - 0 to go through to take the League Cup. The players said "This victory is for us and all our supporters". But Ahly weren't too heartened as there 'was only a point in it'. |
Aswan beat Sohag 1 - 0 and 3 - 0 both away and at home to avoid relegation into the frist division |
Aswan avoided relegation into the first division by providing their supporters with an unexpexted win both away and at home. They had suffered their worst rankings in 10 years but proved they could still play premiership football. But their win meant both Mowleen and Goldi had been relegated into the first division. The new season starting on 24th July 2003 will prove whether Aswan deserve to be in the top flight. |
Egyptian giants Ahly and Zamalek have failed to secure new managers for the new season. Portuguese Eduardo Manuel Vingada quit Zamalek after just two days in the job, while Ahly's board refused to confirm the appointment of Argentine coach Oscar Lopez. Lopez was expected to sign his $250,000 contract on Tuesday but Ahly's board stopped the completion of the deal. "We have officially informed Lopez that the club will not be able to sign him," said Ahly officials. The club is said to be in talks with Portuguese coach Victor Olivier. At Zamalek, coach Vingada said personal reasons led to his decision to leave the club. Vingada, who recieved $60,000 as a signing-on bonus, said his wife was unwilling to settle in the Middle East. "He told us that he cannot continue with the job because of medical and family reasons. "But his request was rejected," confirmed Zamalek board members. The club claimed Vingada is joining Real Madrid, where he will become the assistant to Carlos Queiroz. Vingada assisted Queiroz while he was a coach with the Portuguese youth team. Zamalek said if Vingada insists on leaving, he will have to pay $192,000 as a penalty for terminating the contract. |

Egypt have decided to play many games before ACN 2004.But the participation of Ahly's lethal striker Ahmed Belal seems rather doubtful due to injury, though attempts are being made at rehabilitation for the top Vodafone Premiership goalscorer to join Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' up front in the game. On the other hand, Mido himself is currently not with the team, as he joined his Spanish side Celta Vigo in their remaining games in the Spanish La Liga, and is scheduled to return and participate in the Madagascar encounter before travelling back to Spain to fight it off with his team against Barcelona. The EFA also decided on the match timing and venue, with Port Said Stadium hosting the event after hosting the Mauritius game previously, with the match being played on Friday the 20th of June at 8:30 Cairo local time, and refereed by a Tunisian umpire team. Below is the current Egypt squad present at the training camp: |
