Can't Wait For Summer

We are coming into the home stretch of the school year. Both you and your child have worked hard to make it through. Now it's almost time for vacation. It is important to have your child's year on a positive note. So make sure, they stick to their nightly routines. This is really  difficult to do, when it stays daylight so much later into the evening. The children want to stay outside longer, to play with their friends, and who can blame them when the weather is beautiful. In school, the children have all they can do to keep themselves contained. This last month is difficult for them to pay attention in class, let alone complete their work. Attempting to teaching new concepts now, is not beneficial for your child. First, they will not absorb the information. Secondly, it is more important to solidly reinforce the skills they have learned so they will retain them over the summer. Many children are sad to think that school  is ending and they will be leaving their teacher. A special bond has formed between the child, the teacher, and the classmates. The thought of change makes everyone feel sad. Some are worried about who their new teacher will be and what he/she will be like. And..... so, the cycle will begin again in August!

Helpful Tips For Parents:

. If your child wishes do something special for their teacher as school closes, it does not have to be a store gift. Have your child write a letter (or dictate a letter) to the classroom teacher telling him/her what it meant to the child to have that person for a teacher. Words are more powerful than any gift.

. If the child wishes to draw, bake, or make something special for the teacher - these treasures are hard to find.

. Let your child cry, if he/she needs to let out the sadness - support and comfort them by acknowledging this is a sad time for them and they will miss their teacher, but they can still drop in to see him/her.

. Have your child list all the positive things they learned while in that teacher's class.

. If possible, make plans with the teacher for your child to visit school and meet the new teacher before school opens.
