What if the Chief of Staff to the Vice-President of the United States committed a series of murders to cover his tracks? What if you were a member of a newly formed agency called the Department of Counter-Intelligence, who's soon be hot on his tail? Would you arrest him? The Chief of Staff's political power is very well known. Would you report the crime to your Director at DCI, and would the Director do anything about it, knowing the situation? Or would you turn a blind eye to protect the nation from another embarrassing moment?

These are the questions Max Stone must resolve in my novel, 'Executive Betrayal'. At the moment of the murders he professes allegiance to Director Peters, but he questions whether he has made the right choice. A quick promotion from FBI agent, to DCI, TTF- Terrorist Task Force, puts him into a job that can overwhelm him. He supports the Director's action on backing off on some of the issues with the case. But within weeks a series of events makes Stone wonder if the Chief of Staff to the VP is as honorable as he seems. Max Stone digs for the truth and unearths secrets woven deeply within the infrastructure of the government. Secrets that touch even his family, but he may be digging his own grave.

"Executive Betrayal: A Max Stone Series" gathers a collection of characters, each linked in one way or another to a federal investigation involving a drug cartel in Costa Rica. The combining elements of suspense and intrigue, can imagine the way one agency might interact with another at diverse levels of authority, including the "Executive" branch of the American government.

I mainly focus on the efforts of Max Stone and his team as they pursue possible leads, inching toward a confrontation with potentially wide-reaching implications. As a whole my contribution in writing the "Max Stone Series" is to entertain and capture the imagination as well as to provoke thought. Leaving open the possibility for a sequel-(Lines Between the Sand-book 2, and Stone Kill-book 3) both from the Max Stone Series", which are six novels in all. I wrote the first novel in 2000, had a version on how our nations security should be step up to the next level, in order to combat the threat of terrorism, and other crimes. I version a New World Order, which took the CIA, FBI, NSA, NORAD, NRO, with a few others agencies, and place them under the wings of the DCI-Department of Counter-Intelligence to combat any threat.

  Synopsis

Executive Betrayal, a Max Stone series is the first in a series of books which explore the many forms of terrorism, crime, and corruption. It is a work of fiction with a powerful message woven into the fabric of the story. Intense action, high tech innovations, subterfuge and intrigue are all explored as the reader is introduced to the many levels of the Department of Counter Intelligence (DCI) operating within the New World Order. In addition to the fast action and dramatic narrative, the original concept has real meaning and plausible answers as it deals with issues our entire world is faced with today.

1. On a January day in 2008, delegates gather to "to cause and to witness the creation and acceptance of a new global community in the cause for World Peace and Reclamation."

2. Not long after the President proclaims, "We will prosper, and We The People will walk tall and proud as citizens of One Nation Earth," the setting moves to South America.

3. There Don José represents "the voice, and unofficially, the judicial arm of the Costa Rican people." Having vowed "revenge" on the Cartel as a result of his brother's death some time previous, Don José hopes to release the nation "from tyranny."

4. He calls upon Eduardo Rodriguez, but the man resists the idea of his daughter Krystal "being used" as part of an effort to gather information, so Don José moves to his "second option."

5. Meanwhile a task force, including Special Agent Max Stone, receives instructions and starts investigating.

6. At DEA headquarters in Washington, a report surfaces involving the murders of three agents who "died the same way as... Smith and Moore."

INTERVIEW:

By Marie Nesmith/Bartow Neighbor Staff Writer, June 16, 2003

One doesn't have to be a psychic to sense Edwin Santiago has a story to tell. It is written all over his face as he talks about the plot of his first novel, "Executive Betrayal/a Max Stone Series." It is a tale about terrorism, power, and corruption. Given the present state of world affairs, the story's themes could be easy confused with reality. But fortunately, this tale is a futuristic glimpse of where the world could be headed. In "Executive Betrayal," the reader is introduced to agent Max Stone and the world politics of 2010. Stone is the hero of the novel, which is the first book in a series of six. With "Executive Betrayal" already in wide release, the second novel is set to hit the shelves in October.

"I wrote the book three years ago," Santiago said. "I started noticing that three was one thing that was wrong with our country. We have so many secret agencies, including the FBI and CIA, that have bits of information. The problem is that they won't share what they know with each other."

In the world that Santiago has created, a new global agency called the Department of Counter Intelligence (DCI) has been formed to battle terrorism among other things. It is part of the new world order, consisting of 80 countries. During the America president's speech in the novel's introduction, he refers to the alliance and worldwide defense as "the birth of a new nation". As terrorism looms, people are giving over their individual rights and looking to the government for add security. With the approval of Congress and the president, the DCI can operate freely without the approval of anyone. The novel explores what could happen when an agency is given absolute power. As the novel's cover reads, "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely." The novel's hero is a stub born FBI agent who is picked to lead a task force of the DCI. To solve a murder case. His flawless track record for soling cases is just what the DCI needs to fight terrorism. Along the way, the case evolves and eventually leads to some White House officials.

"The first book goes into the different levels of the DCI," Santiago said. "It talks about why it came about and how the American people allowed the President and Congress to sign off on it for added security. With the release of "executive Betrayal," in April, Santiago has been busy promoting the book. From interviews to book signings, he is determined to get the word out. This summer he will have two book signings in his hometown of Cartersville. Santiago will be at Kudzu Book Fair on June 14 and at Main Street Books & coffeehouse on July 19. He said the best way to purchase a copy of his novel is via the Internet. Among other web sites, www.AuthorHouse.com, www.Amazon.com is selling the novel worldwide.

REVIEWS 'Executive Betrayal':

July 6, 2004 Reviewer: Pat (L. A.) - A wonderful read.

I just loved the way the story line went, with it's in's and out's in every chapter. I did not know who is behind it all, or what to think. I have to say that the author has a way with words, when it came down to the love scene, not going into so much, I'll let you read it for yourself. I am not a book reviewer, but I do love the book, and the way it carry itself from chapter to chapter, I'll be looking foward to the next issue of the Max Stone series.

July 5, 2004 Reviewer: Mary - Just loved to read

The author made it easy to read & understand. I am not a fiction reader, but my Friend had brought a copy of "executive betrayal", and told me about the book. I read the back cover, and found it very interesting, so I pick up one from my loacl book store. I can only say this new wave of thinking is refreshing from what I had read before. I rate it a 4 stars, and looking to see what they will come up next.

July 5, 2004 Reviewer: John (Chicago) It pass my ten page test.

I could not believe the ending, which will keep me thinking for a few more months, about who is really behind it all. "Executive Betrayal" a great read for fiction lovers like myself. I give it A+ I just loved it...

October 31, 2003 Reviewer: Elizabeth (New Mexico)

I brought this book from a local book store, a friend told me about the book, and so I got it. I love the way the author told his story, and the plot, which is what's happening today.

I also learn that the author 'Edwin Santiago' had written the book three years ago, and wrote the book with headlines news of today. There is another thing I heard? The second book from the "Max Stone Series" title "Lines Between the Sands" is do out early of 2004, and I will be online to get it. I rate this a 5, and hope others would love the book the way I did.

July 29, 2003 Reviewer: Robert

I have read 3/4 of the book, I do say that first time authors have done a great job so far. I do admire their style, the way each characters come into play with each other, and hope the rest of the series is as good as the first book. I do like the way things are going within the book, as you go along, and learn what really goes behind closed doors within our own government. As the sub-title says? "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely"

I rate it 5 stars. Cannot wait to see what happens to Agent Max Stone, and the rest of the DCI agents. Plus what is the real story with his tough partner Agent Maritza Falcón.

June 9, 2003 Interesting story line. Reviewer: Robert (New York City)

I had read lots of novel from new authors, to old ones. However, I do love the way this new writer wrote his book, and the way it moves along with the story, and characters, like 'Max Stone' I do recommend this book, and hope you will enjoy it as I have. Can not wait for the next book to come out.

May 22, 2003 A original concept, from a new author with a vision. Reviewer: Chris (Atlanta)

Wow! A sharp and perceptive vision of our world today. Original ideas and approaches to today's world problems as they might really be dealt with. A must-read thriller that will take the reader on a captivating ride of political, military, and world intrique. This story takes place in our near (or almost present) future and tells about new agency built by the US to conteract the threats of terrorism, as well as dealing with general crime on a world-wide basis. Deals with our New World Order and the threats we all face. I'm really looking forward to the next in this 'Max Stone' series!

May 20, 2003 Reviewer: Carmen (Puerto rico)

I like the way the story line is written, plus the way the author made it easy to follow, and for someone like me to understand the high tech within the story it was a great read.

Looking forward to reading the next installment of the series. I give it four (4) cocoanuts out of five (5).
