Deanna is a modern respelling of Diana, the name of the Roman goddess of the moon and the hunt (Artemis, in Greek mythology). The name may be connected with “deus” (god).

History:
Deanna, although it was originally given as a new spelling of Diana, was made known by Deanna Durbin (born 1921), who used it as a rearrangement of Edna. Later, as Diane and Diana rose in popularity, so did Deanna.
