Fighters and Battlecraft

Fighters and battlecraft are the long arm of the EDF combined fleet forces. They are carried on almost every major warship produced by the EDF and provide an unequalled amount of flexibility in fleet planning and tactics.

Black Tiger Fighter

The Black Tiger was the first mass-produced fighter that was able to fight the Gamilons on even terms. The most famous unit of these fighters served aboard the EDF Argo during the Voyage to Iscandar and back. During that war the Black Tiger Fighter would go into battle against the finest Gamilon fighters of the day and time and time again emerge victorious. The only flaw of the Back Tiger design was the lack of any form of Attack missiles or torpedoes. The Replacement for the Black Tiger more then addressed these deficiencies.

Cosmo Falcon (Recon Fighter)

An earlier design then the Black Tiger fighter it was outclassed by almost every Gamilon Fighter of it's day. It did, however, carry two attack missiles which did let it attack Gamilon fleet units. This fighter was quickly phased out of service when the Black Tiger was introduced. The Final units where retired once the new, improved Cosmo Tiger II was introduced.

Cosmo Zero (Superstar Fighter)

An amazingly popular design that is still in use by the EDF. Never built in vast quantities the Cosmo Zero served as the Commander's craft for many squadrons during the Gamilon War. It is noted to be a difficult fighter to master but once mastered it provides its pilot with an amazing amount of maneuverability. It carries a powerful beam weapon armament and several attack missiles.

Cosmo Tiger II (Astrofighter II)

The Cosmo Tiger II is probably the most successful Fighter built by the EDF. During it's long operational life it has been upgraded several times. The basic Cosmo Tiger II spaceframe has also served as the basis for several variant fighter and bomber designs. The following will cover the three major varients of the Cosmo Tiger II

MkI. Went into service shortly before hostilities with the Comet Empire. This fighter was able to compete on an equal basis with the advanced Comet Empire models. The only disadvantage was a low range when compared to some Comet Empire fighter designs. It carried 2 Attack missiles and 3 Torpedoes.

MkII. Improved engine resulted in better fuel consumption thus giving it a longer range. This version was introduced into service after the comet Empire war but did not fully replace the MkI until the Bolar conflict. The MkII was notable for the improved payload capability, carrying up to 4 Attack missiles and 5 Torpedoes.

Mk III Cosmo Tiger II's on the launch deck of the Argo.

Mk III. An even better improvement over the Mk II with a totally redesigned engine and control system. The Mk. III was introduced into service just prior to the conflict with the Denguil Empire and the Argo was embarked with the first few squadrons of these planes.

Cosmo Tiger II - Attack Bomber (Astrofighter II- Attack Bomber)

The Cosmo Tiger II Attack Bomber

Designed from the Come Tiger basic spaceframe the Attack Bomber was a hybrid fighter/attack plane. The main difference between it and the standard Cosmo Tiger II was the addition of a large twin barreled turret. This turret provided valuable protection to the battlecraft on attack runs and in dogfights.

Cosmo Tiger II - Electra ( Torpedo Bomber)

A specialized and highly modified version of the Cosmo Tiger II spaceframe. The Electra proved itself at the battle of Titan when squadrons of Electras helped destroy the Carrier armada of the Comet Empire Fleet.

Cosmo Jaguar

The Cosmo Jaguar is a tough, capable attack plane. While not a sleek at the more flashy Cosmo Tiger IIs it is a tough ship designed for a multitude of missions. Because of it's larger size the Jaguar is often based from planet and asteroid bases rather then stationed on Fleet elements. During the Comet Empire Invasion the Argo carried a few prototype models that proved themselves well in combat.
