Belfour Nickname: The "Eagle" Born: Carman, Manitoba - April 21, 1965 Home: Coppell, Texas Height: 5' 11" Weight: 175 Uniform #'s 1 and 30 with Chicago and 20 with the San Jose Sharks and the Dallas Stars. Uses the #20 in honor of his mentor and friend Vladislov Tretiak. Style: Butterfly and standup goaltender. Catches left. Hobblies: Fishing, Scuba diving, flying, building muscle cars. Community Involvement: Make a Wish Foundation. Has a section of Reunion Arena set aside for the special kids from Make a Wish called "The Eagles Nest". Aspiration when he retires is to race cars. College: University of North Dakota. Started in hockey as a center but soon became a goalie because no one else wanted the job. |
Ed was named by Goaliworld Magazine as the #1 netminder in the year 2000! Way to go Ed!!!!! Ed recorded 5 shutouts in the month of November, 3 consecutive and 7 total for the season. He is on a pace for a 20 shutout season. His shutout streak lasted 219 minutes and 9 seconds a career best! Way to go Eddie!!!!! Ed recorded his 50th shutout in a 3-0 win over the Washington Capitols on October 14, 2000 moving him into an elite list as only 18 goaltenders have ever recorded 50 + shutouts in their career. Major Kudos Mr. Belfour!!! Ed named by The Hockey News Yearbook 9th among the best players in the world and THE best goaltender in the world! Congrats Eddie!!! Eddie was one of only three goaltenders named by the fans of the Chicago Blackhawks as the all time best along with Glenn Hall and Tony Espisito his friend and mentor. The balloting took place courtesy of the Chicago Blackhawks and the Chicago Sun Times and they asked the fans to pick the 75th Anniversary team. Congrats again Eddie! |
