Information From Diane Wrigley

Hi Eddie

I have some more info for you if you're interested:-

From the marriage certificate-
John Duncan, bachelor, 24 of 2 Mason St married Mary Coop, spinster, 20 of 2 Back Acton St on 14/6/1859 at Manchester Cathedral Parish Church -
his occupation was Fustian Dyer and his father William was also a dyer -
her father was James a carter.
The witnesses were Thomas Coop and Elizabeth Coop.

From the birth cert-
Thomas born 23/5/1860 at 16 Rutland St to John, a velvet finisher, and Mary Duncan
From the birth cert-
Mary Coop Duncan born 4/5/1868 at 10 Grosvenor St to John, a carter, and Mary Duncan
From the death cert-
Mary Duncan aged 32 on 15/5/1868 at 10 Grosvenor St wife of John Duncan, a carter, died of puerperal mania.
John registered the birth of his daughter and the death of wife on 19/5/1868.

From the birth certs-
Edith 9/2/1876 to John a carter and Mary (formerly Downs) Duncan at 3 Slack Place
Emily 23/10/1877 to John an ostler and Mary (formerly Downs) Duncan at 4 Slack St

From the death cert-
Mary Duncan 26/9/1882 aged 38 at 1 Slack St wife of John Duncan, watchman at stables, died
of fatty degeneration of heart. John registered the death.
From the death cert-
John Duncan 7/5/1885 aged 51 at 6 Lilian Square, ostler, died of cancerous tumour of abdomen.
J Duncan brother registered the death of 22 Lower Craven Street Salford.

To tie in nicely on the 1891 Census a James Duncan aged 44, a velvet dresser, was living with his family at 22 Lower Craven Street Salford.

John appears to have changed profession after he married Mary Coop her father being a carter and I do know that on the 1961 Census the Duncans were living at the same address as James and Sarah Coop.

Hope you find this useful
