Learn dance anywhere, anytime!

Utilizing the latest elearning and multimedia technologies for the web, the school of dance is location where people can log on to learn dance anytime, anywhere.

The school of dance will not be a physical building, but an elearning application. To use the service, students would require to become a subscribing members.
Dances will be taught through streaming media and will include traditional, popular and ethnic genres. The school will appeal to dance enthusiasts and consumers of dance instruction outside of the classroom. Apart from the practical classes, theoretical lessons for the various danceforms will also be made available.

Background and reason:
As a dance teacher over the years, I have observed that in learning and teaching dance, availability, locality(of place or of trend) and student count are mostly responsible for the success and failure of dance classes. Having a dance school online would solve these issues.
More and more projects are arising to fuse dance with technology. As more and more learning institutions take to elearning, teaching performing arts is still in the making, although the challenges for a dance school are even greater, the first school of dance online is being born.

The method
The classes will be offered asynchronously. Popular dance classes will be offered and then traditional dances will follow. Modules will be either graphical, textual, in video format or a combination. The project will involve dance teachers of the selected genres, who will assist in the construction of their classes. Apart from the practical classes, theoretical lessons for the various danceforms will also be made available.

The additional values of learning dance online:
  • More information can be made available
  • One can take the classes at his own pace
  • Classes will still take place irrespective of the number of student. In studios and schools the classes will not take place when there is not a minimum number of students
  • To have the opportunity to communicate with dancing professionals and networking
  • Location as a constraint is removed. Normally, to be able to learn certain dances, the dance teacher has to be present some where near you, but with learning dance online, the teacher could have prepared the dance in the Pacific and it is received in Miami.
