A Woodstock man who died early yesterday in a motorcycle accident was remembered by his family as being quiet and shy except when he was around friends.
Christopher Welt, 26, died after colliding with a truck on Nellis Street in Woodstock.
"Everything was going right for him," said his father, Robert Welt of London. Christopher Welt was an auto mechanic apprentice and had just finished the first part of the course at Fanshawe College.
He had a B average and was apprenticing at Frank Bodnar Woodstock Ltd., an automotive repair shop in Woodstock.
Welt was living with his sister Kimberly, 22, her husband Brian McConkey, his nephew Kurtis, 4, and his five-month-old niece Jaden in Woodstock.
"We were close since birth," said Kimberly.
They went to high school together at Huron Park secondary in Woodstock and grew up in Innerkip.
Her last memory of Christopher was of him talking and playing with his nephew Kurtis. "Kurtis always liked his motorcycle," she said.
Laughing and having a good time were things he enjoyed, said his sister, especially with his friends.
"He just liked to have fun in general," she said.
Robert Welt said his son got his motorcycle licence when he was 16 and he had never had an accident.
Welt was heading east on Nellis Street around 12:15 a.m. when he hit the back of a parked tractor trailer after rounding a curve, Oxford community police said.
A service is planned tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at Longworth RD Funeral Home Ltd., 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock. Visitation is scheduled today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Welt is survived by his father and stepmother, Mary, his mother, Lona Kaufman, and her husband, Earl, of Innerkip, his sister, Kimberly, and her husband, Brian, and their children, Kurtis and Jaden.

Chris amaba a Joan, con su ultimo suspiro él la amo y pronto ellos se iban a conocer en persona.
Ahora el la esta cuidando desde el cielo.

Chris had a great love with Joan, with his last breath he loved her and soon they were to meet.
Even now he is watching over her in spirit

Chris was my friend and support for 2 years. We cried together, laughed together and raged together. We will always be together even when we can't see eachother. Midnight phone calls, bad days and great ones. Things shared, kites, cars, music, books and all joys were an excuse for a phone call.
I love you Chris.

I appreciate him so much, he was a very smart guy and really good friend with a nice conversation and great sense of humor. He was suspose to stop in Merida(july 2002) to have a beer with me before take off to meet Joan, but it will not be possible now.
I know he is better now and thinking about his best friends(like he used to call us).
I will always keep him on my mind as the great friend and person he was.
Thank you Chris
