The Daily Rave

Following description credit to Indian Engineer Vikrant:

["Stylistic" Modifications -- EC] The alternative to the hard disks has already begun. At Research Centre of IBM Almaden, California, scientists are developing the Holographic recording method for data storage.

Brief Info about Holographic data storage technology is as follows :

The crystal in the trial arrangement at the IBM Lab is smaller than a cubic centimeter in volume, but can store Gigabytes of data. The object ray and the reference ray meet in the crystal and produce an interference pattern that contains the information.

The reference ray alone is enough to read the data. If a search pattern is modulated on it, it reproduces the accompanying picture ray. The detectors at the rear of this structure record it.

This New Technology has still long way to go before it is available for the public use. The Holographic process is promising with lots of advantages.
