The Eck Ratings System (ERS) was developed in 1985 to develop an unbiased system to determine the top ranked teams in college football.  The factors used to determine a teams rating are outome of the game, strength of opponent, and location of the game.  Bowl game results are included in the final ratings.  Basketball rankings do not include NCAA or NIT tournament games.  Baseball games do not include NCAA Tournament games.  One asterisk represents an automatic qualifier.  Two asterisks represent an at-large selection.  Special thanks to James Howell for historical football scores and to Kenneth Massey for historical basketball scores. Basketball There are a number of ways to measure the accuracy of a college basketball ranking system.  The Eck Ratings System has predicted the at-large berths for the NCAA Tournament as well as any other ranking system.  Attached is a comparison of at-large team selections for several ranking systems. Golf The golf rankings are based on PGA Tour events as well as majors and World Golf Championship tournaments outside the United States.  Players receive points for finishing in the Top 25 of a particular tournament.  Tournaments are broken into four categories.  Category A are the four majors.  Category B are World Golf Championship tournaments and the Player's Championship.  Category C are regular tour events with a significant number of top ranked players.  Category D are the remaining PGA Tour events. The world golf rankings account for tournaments played on the U.S., Nationwide, European, European Challenge, Asian, Japanese, Canadian, and South African tours.  The season rankings provide a player of the year for that calendar year.  The world rank page provides a world ranking at the end of each calendar year based on the performance over the past 24 months.
