Aphrodite, Goddess of Love

Her symbol is the dove
Aprodite was the goddess of love, fertility, beauty and desire. Her Roman name is Venus. Aphrodite lived on Mt. Olypus with all the other gods. She was the daughter of Zeus and Dione. Her name means "foam risen" in the Greek language. She was named this because it is said that she rose up on the sea-foam of a seashell after Cronus tossed his father's severed genitals into the sea.

      Aphrodite was strikingly
beautiful. She liked to seduce men and helped spouces cheat on each other. She was a very powerful woman and it's said that even King Zeus listened to her and was caught up in her rapture. When Aphrodite arrived on Mt. Olympus, Zeus was so struck by her beauty that he arranged for her her to marry Hephaestus, the ugliest god on the mountain. Hephaestus wasn't a bad guy. He was the mountain's blacksmith and made beautiful works of art. He was also a very loyal and faithful husband (which is more than we can say for Aphrodite). Zeus had Aphrodite marry Hephaestus mainly because he didn't want the other gods fighting over her.
