UPDATED |
Welcome ! It's
February 2001 and I have Finally updated the website with a links page and
lots of new dvd reviews. To anyone who visited the
page in the last 6 months to see if it was updated - Thank you very much for
your patience and your interest!!!!! On
Chinese new year I went to see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon at the cinema.
To be honest I was slightly disappointed - I felt the movie tried to be too
many things (a love story, a typical kung fu movie, a film about repression
of women etc), which resulted in the film being overlong. Still I was
extremely impressed with the (Yuen Woo Ping's)
fight scenes and especially by Michelle Yeoh.
Amazing stuff. Incidently there was a column in the
Guardian newspaper involving one columnist's intense dislike of Crouching
Tiger Hidden Dragon, which some Chinese readers thought was little more than
indirect racism. I wasn't offended by the writer's words but I did think the
writer's ideas of stereotypes was outdated to say
the least. The Guardian needs younger writers if you ask me. Anyway you might
not have any idea what I'm talking about so go to: www.dimsum.co.uk
to read the article and reactions. Then email them or myself and have you own
say on the subject! Back
to HK movies - For us HK fans in the Well
that's it for now. The next update will hopefully be in a month or two direct
from the land of the rising sun. Thanks for reading ! |
